Series Intro: Love Stories
- No love story is perfect but they all have a few things in common.
- This isn’t about finding someone necessarily.
- It’s about who we are becoming.
- Because who we are will always shape who we end up with. Or if we’re with someone who we are will shape where we’re both going.
Message Title: The Words That Write Our Love Stories
ME: The unseen power behind my life
ME: The unseen power behind my life
Most people see what I do but very few see the prayers, the words from my wife that make this all possible.
I don’t share this because I want to show you how amazing my marriage is. But because I want you to see how powerful our unseen words really are.
We: Because all of our words matter more than we realize…
We: Because all of our words matter more than we realize…
Matthew 12:34 - Our words show what’s on the inside.
We all talk - We all react - We all underestimate our words on a daily basis.
James 1:19 - Managing our words applies to every single one of us.
Wether we’re single, dating, married, or healing from something - all of us are forming relationships with our words every single day
Proverbs 18:21 — What we’re looking at today is that Word’s don’t just express what’s in us - they direct where we’re going.
Most of us think our biggest relationship problems are about compatibility… but Scripture says they’re about the heart, and the heart always leaks through the mouth

Context leading into 1 Samuel
Which leads us to 1 Samuel 25 - A chapter made up of words. Foolish Words - Angry Words - And Godly Words
1 Samuel 25:2-3
Nabal - Abigail - Carmel
1 Samuel 25:4-8 - David asks for a little help given he has done so much for Nabal
1 Samuel 25:9-11 - Nabal answers with an insult.
1 Samuel 25:12-13 - David’s angry and looking for revenge. Not slow to respond either.
1 Samuel 25:14-17 - The servant tells Abigail and she enters the scene.
- The servant knew to go to her clearly because of her character and history.
1 Samuel 25:18-19 - She acted quickly. When you act quickly you showcase who you are.
So she heads out to meet David and intercepts him.
Then she says some of the most important words ever spoken…
1 Samuel 25:25 - She speaks the truth about her husband and tells it like it is.
She didn’t go out speaking rudely randomly… but when the truth needed to be said she let it be said.
1 Samuel 25:26 - She reminds David that God has always fought his battles and kept him from having unnecessary blood on his hands.
1 Samuel 25:30-31 - She protects David by reminding him of his mission and keeping his hands clean when he reaches it.
David spares all their lives because of her. Her husband ends up dying shortly after and when David hears of it he asks her to be his wife.
One speech… and it changed her life in a way she could not have even imagined.
Abigail didn’t just save one household. She saved a whole future for many.
You: Abigail isn’t remembered because she found the right man. She’s remembered because she was the right kind of person.
You: Abigail isn’t remembered because she found the right man. She’s remembered because she was the right kind of person.
This is what I get from Abigail’s story…
1. Who you are comes out when pressure shows up
When we’re tired…
When we’re frustrated…
When we’re misunderstood…
The words that come out show who we are.
2. Your words are shaping your future before you ever get there
Single or Married… your words are shaping your future.
3. God wants to tame your tongue before He trusts you with more
Abigail wasn’t elevated because she was special… but because she was found trustworthy through her words.
Our tongue will create good or bad for people we may not even know yet.
This Love Stories series is about relationships… our future relationships, our current marriages…
But the question isn’t “What kind of relationship do I want?”
The question is “What kind of person am I aiming to become?”
We:
We:
We want to be a church full of people that bring life to situations… not cause more damage.
We want to be a church that’s slow to speak so that our words are lead by the spirit… not our emotions.
Abigail didn’t wait for a ring, a title, or change… She spoke wisely first and then God trusted her with more.
So this series isn’t just about love stories. It’s about becoming the kind of people God can trust with love.

Listen this isn’t about trying to be better with our words… This is about letting God shape who we are so that our words follow suit.
So if you’re single and you’re asking God to shape your more into the person you’re called to be, and you want your words to follow suit… this is for you.
If you’re in a relationship and you’re wanting your future, your children’s future, and more to be shaped by words of peace, goodness, joy from your mouth… this is for you.
Your words are creating a story and God has the power to shape it for the best
