Free Will
You have a choice to sin or not.
You will be rewarded for your deeds - Good or Bad.
8 Even as I have seen, Those who plow iniquity And sow trouble reap the same.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
What goes around, comes around.
9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
This is not just after Judgment Day, but today.
Politicians make decisions we will only suffer from after they are out of office, so too we think we will only suffer after we are dead.
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. 9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— 11 and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
Being lazy is not good. If you do nothing, you will get nothing. You must be like the ant, it works and then is safe and supplied during the winter
4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.
But Humans we are lazy and want to do nothing now. When it is time to harvest, there will be nothing.
How will you get paid if you have not worked.
How will you profit, if you did not invest?
How will your business grow, if you don’t care for it?
How do you expect to be in the Kingdom of heaven, if you have not put in the work?
Consequences of your actions may come in this life.
27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil.
Do not believe that it only comes at the end of life. Even here. Prove and the rest of Gal.
Story of Jacob as an example.
29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” 32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
Saw a man in need, and took advantage of his trouble.
Note that, Jacob was the younger brother, Esau was older, but He swopped.
33 Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him—and indeed he shall be blessed.” 34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me—me also, O my father!” 35 But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.” 36 And Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
He is not young at this time, he is over 40.
Here Jacob, Deceived his Father and took something that his father did not mean to give to him. He was a fraudster.
During the text, he does not say no to his mother’s idea, he simply points out issues and goes ahead.
Esau has to take a seconday blessing as a result.
13 Then it came to pass, when Laban heard the report about Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. So he told Laban all these things. 14 And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him for a month. 15 Then Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what should your wages be?” 16 Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah’s eyes were delicate, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance. 18 Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.” 19 And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
Note here that Laban really likes Jacob. He runs out to meet him and kisses him. He is also fair, he is guest just helping, but Laban wants to reward him.
20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her. 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.” 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast.
Note that Jacob is very eager for Rachel. He craves the lady.
He works had for 7 years andit feels like days and now he finally gets to marry the one he worked for. But...
23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. 24 And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?” 26 And Laban said, “It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Does this remind you of anything?
Esau was craving food and here Jacob was craving Rachel. Esau was weak and Jacob took advantage, here Jacob was weak and Laban took advantage. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Jacob take Esau’s birthright for himself and make himself the first born. So he put number 2 before number 1. But here karma comes back at him: He wants to put number 2 before number 1, but Laban tricked him and said, in my country, we do not put number 2 before number 1. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Jacob bought Esau’s birthright and his birthright came with a blessing from his father. In this country, Leah’s birthright came with the right to get married first. Jacob tried to swop it, but he was tricked with a bait and switch. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Jacob and his mother used deceit to trick Isaac. Issac was tricked by his wife and son. But here Karma comes back and Jacob is tricked by his wife and her father and he must work another 7 years. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Isaac was fooled because the younger brother impersonate the older one. But at Laban’s house Jacob was fooled when the older sister impersonating the younger one. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Do you see that you will not only pay for your since in the next life. You may pay for them right here in this life. Proverbs tells u also that you will not only reap the fruit in the next life, you will also benefit in this life.
Your hard work and righteousness will pay off. Your evil deeds will come back to you.
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Amen.
