Troubled Hearts (2)

Troubled Heart: to cause one inward commotion, take away his calmness of mind, disturb his equanimity.

Equanimity: mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.

The way we carry our troubles reflect much of our faith.

Rather that Faith is in how bad it is.

Or rather I believe my God will see me through.

John 14:1 ESV

1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

John 14:25–27 ESV

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

A troubled heart keeps us from receiving what the Holy Spirit would speak to our hearts.

Psalm 55:4–8 ESV

4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. 5 Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. 6 And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; 7 yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah 8 I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.”

Ever felt like you just wanted to run away?

Far far away?

Psalm 55:12–14 ESV

12 For it is not an enemy who taunts me— then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him. 13 But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. 14 We used to take sweet counsel together; within God’s house we walked in the throng.

Ever had a close friend betray you?

Or someone who you worshipped with?

Has any of us gotten troubled at heart over the current state of our country or this world?

Does the word say anything about this?

Philippians 2:14–18 ESV

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.

So how do we overcome troubled hearts?

Believe it or not the bible has an answer for us!

Philippians 4:4–7 ESV

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Reasonableness: Gentleness

Psalm 51:10 ESV

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Let us ask God to remove anything that would cause us heart issues.

Then let us ask for a new clean heart
