Build Connection
We spend yesterday morning at a B-ball tournament and Eli scored his first basket of the season.
I have to say it was a proud moment for me. Why?
Not because he scored a basket, many kids do that all the time.
It was because he did something he had never done before, scored a basket during a game!
Create Tension
The coach set up a situation for Eli to get the ball right next to the basket.
Eli did, and he made the shot!
Coach put in motion a plan to help Eli be successful, and it worked,
Provide Solution
If we are going to coach our kids to win, we must define what win means.
Mark 8:36
“36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
Proverbs 22:6 “6 Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
There are some things you can do to help your children, or children you know win where it is important!
Excel in the basics!

Get in the habit of praying about everything, not just food!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 “17 Never stop praying.”
Ephesians 6:18 “18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
If you kid has a test, pray about it!
If someone is sick, pray about it!
If your kid is being bullied, pray for the bully!
If your kid is having a hard time in school, Pray about it!
If something good happens, pray and thank Jesus about it!

Insert Jesus into everyday life!

Hebrews 13:5 “5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.””
Matthew 28:20 “20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””
If Jesus is always with us and we don’t acknowledge that fact, it’s like we are ignoring him!
Talk about how Jesus would handle certain situations.
How would he respond to being bullied?
How would he deal with those he disagreed with?
How would he respond to someone who is doing wrong?
How would he respond when something good happens?
How would he respond when something bad happens?
How would he respond to someone who believes differently than him?
Like us, Jesus faced all these situations and taught us how we should handle them and how to teach out kids how to handle them.
What are the TV shows, movies, music, video games, podcasts, social media platforms teaching your kids about Jesus and the world?

Celebrate Jesus with others!

The amount of effort you put into something speaks volume to it’s importance.
There is not adequate substitute for going to church!
Church is where you worship together
Church is where you serve together
Church is where the Holy Spirit moves more freely
We have to ask, “Are we teaching with Integrity!”
Correct with love!
Hebrews 12:6 “6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.””
Proverbs 13:24 “24 Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.”
Proverbs 22:15 “15 A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness, but physical discipline will drive it far away.”
Ephesians 6:4 “4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.”
They say Practice makes Perfect, but does it?
Practice only makes perfect if you practice correctly!
Discipline must be consistent - or your kids will negotiate like lawyers.
To many parents give their children choices they are not ready to make.
we are dealing right now with gender dysphoria in children
Do you know what your kids think is acceptable?
The Countdown… If you don’t mean three, don’t start counting!
Understand You can’t control their destination only their starting point!
As the old saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water but you can ‘t make them drink.”
So with children you can train them as they grow, but when they are no longer under your care, their destination is now made from their own choosing!
Encourage Change
What changes can you make that will help your children win in eternity?
