Transitioning from Process to Promise

Joshua 2:9–14 “And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
13. And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.”

Introduction

The death of Moses
When you see death you see a decision
a decision to stay in the dead place
a decision to be in a lack of pursuit
a decision to pursue
We’ve all been in a battle with death in some area of life
irregardless of physical death, spiritual
there is always a battle of emotion, will, and mind
Death does not belong to you
Moses’s death didn’t belong to the children of israel
they could grieve it, but not stay there
Death belongs to God
God knows how to handle dead things
Trust God with the death
Transition of Leadership
Transition to something
Forever Conflict
The conflict everyone will encounter in life
I.E. Am I good enough
Will I make it
God does it for them, will He do it for me?

1. Process through Promise

There is no PROMISE WITHOUT PROCESS
Promise w/o process leads to perversion
the alteration of something from it’s initial course
perversion is what creeps in when believers have not had an opportunity to mature
40 years in the wilderness
40 is the number of power
40 is the number of maturity
The Lord will not bring to promise what has not been processed
This would lead to premature blessings
What kind of God would we serve if He blessed us with something we could not handle/maintain?
V. 2 Sometimes promises place you in the company of what’s less preferred
Promises of promotion may come through the hands of what’s less preferred
Career, Opportunity, Network,
How many of us mismanage moments, because of how something looks? this is judgement
Judgement doesn’t belong to us, judgement belongs to God
God may only bless you by placing you in the presence of what’s less preferred
can you be blessed by something or someone you do not prefer?
What if the only way God said he’d bless you is if you were connected to THOTS and ROBBERS?!?!
Joshua sends spies into Jericho
They needed strategy
The only person in Jericho that hears God is what society looks down upon
one thing about being looked down upon is the only place for them to look is up
BE SO LOW THAT ALL YOU SEE IS GOD!!!
I might be in my mess, but I see Jesus!

2. V.11-12 Problem with Potential in the Promise

Joshua 2:11 “And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”
Joshua 2:12 “Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:”
Potential has the propensity to be problematic
Problematic because Potential is only Possibilities
Many have potential
Potential is reveal as what is possible
The challenge of possibilities is that it may not happen
this is where believers get stuck in the process of becoming
our responsibility is to take the limits off of our possibilities
Take the limits off by being AWARE
V. 11 reveals Rehab being aware
You’re prepared by being aware and in tune with the times
First knew who God was by His attributes
Some things only God can do
Take the limits off by being Planted
V. 11-12 reveals Rehab being planted through her faith in Go
Hebrews 11:31 “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.”
All Rahab did was use what she had to plant herself in the presence of God
Rahab the prostitue
She’s nice
she knows how to talk
she knows how to entice
she knows how to persuade
Something in her still knows God!!
God knows who you are … Something in you knows who He is
Use what you have to be planted in the Safe Soil of God

3. V. 13-14 Preparation for Promise

Joshua 2:13 “And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”
Joshua 2:14 “And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.”
Preparation for Promise is to be Planted in Safe Soil
It matters where you’re planted
Where you’re planted determines the trajectory and projected outcomes of your life
If you’re planted in sin, you receive the benefits of sin
The wages of sin is death
Planting is protecting from what is Pending
V. 14 reveals God is coming through His promises
Who’s side are you on?
V. 14 reveals when you plant in Him, He plants in you
God, when you commit your ways to Him, will commit his ways to you
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the Lord, And thy thoughts shall be established.”
Safe Soil Stablishes you!!
Matthew 1:2–6 “Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; And Salmon begat Booz of RAHAB; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;”
