Key Text: Luke 2:42–49 (NIV)

Introduction

Today is a joyful day. We are celebrating 12 years of life—12 years of God’s protection, love, and purpose in this precious child’s life.
Birthdays are not just about cakes and gifts; they are about God’s faithfulness and new seasons.
Today is special because the Bible also speaks about the age of 12—only once very clearly—and that moment teaches us something powerful.

1. Age 12: When Jesus First Spoke About His Father’s Work

📖 “When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom.” (Luke 2:42)
At the age of 12, Jesus:
Was found in the temple
Was listening, asking questions
And said something life-changing:
📖 “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49)
This was the first recorded words of Jesus in the Bible.
Lesson: At 12, Jesus was not confused about life. He knew who His Father was and why He had come.

2 A New Season: From Childhood to Responsibility

Age 12 is a turning point:
Not a baby
Not yet an adult
But a season of learning, identity, and direction
Just like Jesus:
He didn’t perform miracles yet
He didn’t preach yet
But His heart already belonged to God
To the birthday girl:
God is not waiting for you to grow older to love you or use you. Even now, He is shaping your heart, your thoughts, and your future.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young…” (1 Timothy 4:12)

3 What This Means for All of Us (Sharing the Gospel)

Friends, this story is not only about age—it’s about relationship with God.
Jesus at 12 reminds us:
God wants a relationship, not just religion
God wants our hearts, not just our attendance
The same Jesus who sat in the temple at 12: Later died on the cross for our sins Rose again to give us new life
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
The gospel is simple:
We are sinners
We need a Savior
Jesus is that Savior
Age does not matter. Background does not matter. Today is a good day to know Jesus.
