Peter was preaching at Pentecost
Don’t forget this is the same Peter who before Jesus’ crucifixion, denied Him 3 times. Yet now He is full of the Holy Spirit and preaching with boldness and truth!
Who is in the audience
(Religious Jews/Deniers of Jesus/Wanted Him crucified)
The Gospel knows NO BOUNDS. We are about to see that on full display! Buckle up and hold on!
Why This Text Matters
Why This Text Matters
Acts 2 reminds us that when the Holy Spirit pierces the heart, true life change can happen—not by hiding from sin, but by turning from it and turning fully to Jesus in repentance and faith.

All the house of Israel
The entire Jewish nation.
God has made him both Lord and Christ
Jesus has always been Lord, but when He was on earth, He made Himself a humble servant.
Application: What blows my mind is that Peter didn't have commentaries, study Bibles, didn't do exegetical work- Peter preached Jesus, and it was enough. Trust the Holy Spirit to do the work only He can, and let's do our part and point others to Jesus!
WHOM YOU CRUCIFIED
Don't forget who the audience is- religious Jews who wanted Jesus crucified. Romans carried out crucifixion but they're still guilty. YET we will see the power of the Gospel KNOWS NO BOUNDS!
REMEMBER: Our sin contributed to Jesus having to die for our sins- don’t forget that.

Cut to the heart
Luke, who wrote Acts, was a gentile physician; the language is specific and intentional. Other translations have pierced their hearts or pricked in their heart. Christ is concerned about our hearts. It's an experience you never forget when your heart is pierced, cut, or pricked by the Holy Spirit.
Has that truly happened to you?
Brothers what shall we do
They were ready! Conviction of sin set in. Sinners who couldn’t save themselves

Repent & be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
It's the same response now that it was 2000 years ago to the early Church.
You have to repent & believe in your heart to be truly saved.
Repentance involves a change of heart and a change in direction- It’s not saying a prayer to get your ticket into Heaven. It’s turning away from the sin you’re focused on and turning towards Jesus!
The baptism that would follow is a visual expression that you are a new creation- 2 Corinthians 5:17
For the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
Only Jesus can forgive your sins.
The gift is the Holy Spirit Himself dwelling in you.

The promise that Peter is sharing is not just for the Jews who were present and listening, but for ANYONE- it would shortly include Gentiles, which in that time period and culture was a radical thing to believe.
Read John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.” and John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
Thank God He first pursued us!
The Gospel KNOWS NO BOUNDS! We are not defined by our past. No one is too far gone to be saved by Jesus!

There was much more that Peter preached and Luke mentions he continued to bore witness (the resurrection of Jesus) and continued to exhort them (pleading that they repent and believe).
Save yourselves from this crooked generation
Several verses throughout OT and NT say the same thing
Our generation now is no different.

So THOSE who received his word were baptized
Not everyone who heard Peter repented and believed—the same thing happens in our Church on Sundays and may even happen tonight.
Yet those who did respond were immediately baptized.
Read Matthew 7:21–23 ““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”
This should absolutely send chills down our backs and stir in our hearts a desire to share Jesus with our friends, families, and strangers that the Lord brings across our paths.
And there were added that day about three thousand souls
The power of the Holy Spirit at work!!
