Text: Revelation 8:1-9:21

Reading of the Word

Revelation 8:1-13

Intro

Understanding the Cycles

We should not understand these passages as a strictly chronological narrative, but as spiraling cycles which reveal truth in greater detail.
For example, the stars fell from the sky in Rev. 6:13, but then we find stars falling again in Rev. 8:10 and 9:1 (while the stars in Rev. 8:12 are darkened, presuming that they are still in the night sky).
So in Rev. 6, we are told that the stars fall from the sky.
And in Rev. 8 and 9, we are given greater detail explaining the previously stated event.
Likewise, Babylon is declared to have fallen in Rev. 14 and then again is declared to have fallen in Rev. 18 but with more detail.
In a similar fashion, we see a brief depiction of the New Heavens and New Earth in Rev. 7, but are given greater detail in Rev. 21 & 22.

This is Not Total Destruction

Note the specific mention of “a third.”
The flood was total judgment, but we see that a complete and total judgment will not occur again until the very end.
