God has spoken to Abraham on 8 different occasions. Isaac was the only her to the promise that God had given to Abraham. Abraham had a custom of rising early and now ith the weight of what the Lord was asking I can imagine that he didn’t sleep much that night. Yet without question he arose and set out to do what the Lord had asked. If he had delayed he would have allowed for doubt to begin to creep in. He prepared all of the items and did as he was accustomed to meanwhile not drawing attention to what was weighing on his heart. Two days of travel. Two sleepless nights spent in prayer later and they arrive.
Patriarchs and Prophets Chapter 13—The Test of Faith

Satan was near to whisper doubts and unbelief, but Abraham resisted his suggestions.

On the third day he looked up into the heavens and saw a cloud hovering over Mount Moriah and he knew that was where they were to go to sacrifice. Where they would go to sacrifice would later be the exact same mountain where Solomon would build the temple. A place of faith testing and growth would later become a place for God’s presence to dwell amongst His people. When it came time to go up the mountain in the original text, Hebrew, you can see that all the statements use the prononun we. We will go up, we will worship, and we will come again. Abraham was not assuming that God would change his mind and make him stop the act that he had asked of him but rather he had faith in Gods promise that if Isaac should have to die that God would raise him up again. Isaac respectfully addresses his father and asks a simple question about the lamb not knowing that he was to be the sacrfice. “God will provide” pointed not only to the ram that at the point he had no knowledge of but also of something greater someone greater that was to come in the future. Isaac being about the age of 20 and Abraham was probably around 120 years old so he could have easily fought his father but his father explained to him everythign God had told him and potentially he even shared that God was going to do something amazing. As Abraham raised the knife he was set to fill in as the lamb Isaac did not resist. The voice of the angel of the Lord rang out and the act in motion was stopped. God was not interested in this sacrificial act but he was needing the willing obedience of his servant. After untying Isaac and looking up he sees a ram caught in the thicket. He needs not instruction on what to do next as the Lord had provided. Abraham named the paly Jehovah-jireh meaning Jehovah would provide.
The foreshadowing in this story begins blow your mind when you begin to connect the dots. When sin was introduced to this earth the sacrificial system came with it as well. We had to underttand what the wages of sin were. The location of the altar being the same location as Solomon’s temple I do not believe was by chance. The sanctuary was a place for God to dwell amongst his people and for awhile they enjoyed His presence. But soon they forgot the times He arose and saved them from some calamity or provided when they were in need. They turned to other gods and marvelous temple that Solomon built was destroyed. When the Father in Heaven sent his only son to this earth he was able to walk into version essentially 2.5 of the temple as Herod had just expanded and dressed up the temple. But by this time it was no longer a place where God wanted to dwell. While the building may have been stunning the theological decay had taken it’s toll. The prophets spent countless years telling the Lord’s people to correct their ways but yet they failed to listen. Even the leaders turned their back on the Lord’s prophets. That is why they missed the son of God walking amongst them. They’re understanding of the scriptures were so distorted the truth did not draw them in.
Isaac was set to be the sacifice. He did not fight back or resist when he was bound up and set the be offered as a sacrifice. Christ was also bound to the cross. Jesus could have called upon legions of angels and in reality one would have been more than adequate for what was needed. But he didn’t becuase He had already made up in His mind that the He would see the mission through to the end. And as he breathed his last on the hill that was known as Golgotha there’s a chance he could see a mountain not too far away. You see the mountain near Golgotha was the same mountain that Abraham wen to, to sacrifice Isaac. And while Isaac didn’t have to pay the ultimate price Christ did and in his dying he saved us all.
Desire of Ages Chapter 78—Calvary

Satan with his fierce temptations wrung the heart of Jesus. The Saviour could not see through the portals of the tomb. Hope did not present to Him His coming forth from the grave a conqueror, or tell Him of the Father’s acceptance of the sacrifice. He feared that sin was so offensive to God that Their separation was to be eternal. Christ felt the anguish which the sinner will feel when mercy shall no longer plead for the guilty race. It was the sense of sin, bringing the Father’s wrath upon Him as man’s substitute, that made the cup He drank so bitter, and broke the heart of the Son of God.
