Context:
Israel's cycle of disobedience
In response to their disobedience this time God strengthed another leader
Moabites were descended from lot
in response to the cries of the people God sent someone to deliver them
he was likely ambidextrous, so his left handedness was a flex. he was trained to use both. Probably just a well trained solider
sword was about 18 inches
the word “fat” is used other times to describe fattened livestock.
Eglon is thus a fattened animal going to slaughter
His physical glutton is an illustration for his gluttony in life.
his knife was on his right hip, so it would have been hidden
there was likly a smell that kept them from opening the door
