Adding To Our Faith (Patience)

2 Peter 1:5–6 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;”
Unlike on Sunday when I spoke about waiting on God; this is more about patience through trials, patience when circumstances are hard.
Temperance is self control from pleasures that this world has to offer (Daniel)
Patience is Perseverance through hard times, trials, tribulations, persecution. (Joseph being sold)
Often times, the person who gives in to the pleasures is not able to handle pressure.

Where Can We Find This Model of Patience?

Hebrews 12:1–3 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”

The Procedure of Patience

Laying aside:
weight
sin
Laying these aside allows us to run with patience
IF YOU GIVE INTO PLEASURES IT WILL BE EASIER TO FAIL UNDER PRESSURE

The Perspective of Patience

Our Perspective
Looking to Jesus
His Perspective
Joy
His perspective should become ours- THERE IS A BRIGHTER DAY COMING

The Perseverance of Patience

Despising the shame
This carries the expression of enduring the disgrace
The disgrace wasn’t caused by him!!

The Prevention From Adding Patience

Consider Him lest you be wearied and faint in your minds
HAVING THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE OF PATIENCE ALLOWS US ACCESS TO ADD PATIENCE TO OUR FAITH, FOR OUR FAITH!!!
