ME
— I hope you were able to grab a contact this week or you were able to see our See you Sunday video and you have all done the homework for this sermon.
— So what I want to do with this sermon is go through how I would use the SOAP method my own daily devotional life and maybe this will help encourage you to try something new in your Bible study.
— Some of you are sitting here and saying what is the CONTACT and no I didn’t see the video. No problem. Ill explain everything.
— How many of you have ever heard of the SOAP study method?
— Maybe you haven’t of that but how many of you have heard of the the 3 questions you should ask yourself when studying.
What does it say?
What does it mean?
How does it apply?
Same concept. But now its been Pinterested
Method
S – Scripture
Write out the Scripture(s) on blank notebook paper.
O – Observation
Read through what you’ve written and make observations. Define words. Notice grammatical structure. Are there any names? Connecting words? Verbs? Lists?
A – Application
Take your observations and develop application. How does what you see in the text apply to your life today? This step can be a little tricky. Be sure to understand what the passage meant to the original audience before applying it to your own life.
P – Prayer
Take that application and pray that God will help you live it out.

WE
What I want us to do today is go through PHilippians 1:27-28 and just try a little of this method.
GOD
GOD
Philippians 1:27–28 “Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.”
“conduct yourselves” — Imperative verb - That is a command for us to do. “
to conduct one’s life, live,
“In a manner worthy” -
worthily, in a manner worthy of, suitably
This is where we get our term for Axis. The pivot point for the scales that were used in the Market. This term was also used to describe those who were installed as deacons and edlers in the early church.
In this case, on one side of the scale you have your life and on the other side you have the Gospel of Christ. What is that message — Philippians 2:5–11
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
SO THAT - Purpose - (Whether he is there or not) - Just like how we would say what your actions when no one is around.
— What does Paul want to hear about…That they are standing firm in ONE SPIRIT and striving Together in ONE MIND.
— Mind = Psuche - Soul.
And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them.
— For the truth of the gospel message…If we are divided and trying to fight the enemy we will not be able to stand firm.
