From Him, Through Him, and To Him

Primary Text: Romans 11:36–12:2

The Only Reasonable Response

Paul didnt write Romans in chapters and Verses
What we know as Romans 11 and 12 are part of one unfolding dialogue to the church in Rome.
For 11 chapters, more then half of Pauls letter he traces Gods plan for redemption,
He speaks grace upon grace and mercy upon mercy
and it all culminates in this, not in an instruction or a command but in worship:
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.” (Rom 11:36)
and if Romans 11 ends in doxology Romans 12 begins with obedience.
Paul does not move from doctrine to duty,
He moves from worship to surrender
And this is where most of us start to feel uncomfortable
We love Romans 11,
We want that grace
we love his mercy
but Romans 12 asks us for something
and most of us dont struggle beleiving God exists,
we might not even struggle when he calls us to obedience
but when obedience hurts,
When following God comes at a cost
thats when things start to change.
Opening Tension: We want clarity before obedience. We want God to explain Himself before we say yes. And when we hear the word ‘sacrifice,’ we assume loss. But Scripture keeps tells a different story.
the bible shows us time and time again that
Thesis: Because everything comes from God, is sustained through God, and exists for God, the only reasonable response is a living sacrifice.

From Him Promise Before Sacrifice

Text: Romans 11:36a Genesis 12:1–3; 15:5–6; 22:1–14
Truth: God always gives before He ever asks.
Abraham is called by promise long before he is tested by sacrifice.
Genesis 22 only makes sense because of Genesis 12 and 15.
Theological Anchor: God never asks for sacrifice without first giving a promise.
Stewardship Insight: We do not give to secure blessing—we give because blessing has already begun from Him.

Through Him Perfect Obedience Secures the Promise

Text: Romans 11:36b Mark 14:36 John 19:16–30
Supporting Texts: Hebrews 5:7–9 2 Corinthians 5:21
Truth: What God promised, Christ accomplished.
In Gethsemane: “Not my will…”
At the cross: “It is finished.”
Jesus does not partially obey. Jesus does not delay obedience. Jesus completes it.
Gospel Center: Our obedience does not uphold God’s promises—Christ’s obedience already has.

To Him Our Lives Become Living Sacrifices

Text: Romans 12:1–2
Supporting Texts: John 12:24–26 1 John 4:19
Truth: Because the sacrifice is complete, our surrender becomes worship.
“Present your bodies” — not to pay a debt, but to express devotion.
Obedience is no longer requirement—it is response.
Stewardship Reframed:
Stewardship flows from gratitude, not fear
Discipleship is lived worship
Transformation happens as we offer ourselves fully to Him

The Only Reasonable Response

Closing Texts: Romans 5:18–19 Revelation 5:9–13
Summary Flow:
From Him — every promise
Through Him — every fulfillment
To Him — every surrendered life
Final Declaration (slow, intentional): His obedience gave us life. This is our restitution.
Call to Response: Because everything belongs to Him, we now offer everything back to Him— not as payment, but as praise.
