CITIZENSHIP: HEAVEN IS OUR GOVERNMENT, EARTH IS OUR ASSIGNMENT
(Myles Munroe–Aligned | Pastoral + Practical)
OPENING ICEBREAKER
OPENING ICEBREAKER
“CITIZEN VS VISITOR”
“CITIZEN VS VISITOR”
Leader says:
“Before we jump in tonight, I want to start with something simple.
There are no right or wrong answers — just honesty.”
“I’m going to read a few statements.
If they describe how you’ve been living lately, just raise your hand.”
VISITOR MINDSET
VISITOR MINDSET
“I feel like I’m just trying to get through life.”
(pause)
“I feel responsible for fixing everything.”
(pause)
“I try not to expect too much so I won’t be disappointed.”
(pause)
“I feel pressure to figure everything out on my own.”
(pause)
Then say calmly:
“Look around for a moment — you’re not alone.”
“This isn’t about a lack of faith.
Many of us have faith — we’ve just been using it in the wrong system.”
CITIZEN MINDSET
CITIZEN MINDSET
“I believe my life has purpose.”
(pause)
“I believe God cares about my everyday decisions.”
(pause)
“I believe I’m here for a reason.”
(pause)
“I believe God didn’t leave me to navigate life alone.”
(pause)
Transition:
“Tonight we’re going to talk about the difference between living like a visitor…
and living like a citizen of God’s Kingdom.”
OPENING TEACHING
OPENING TEACHING
“Family, for the last three weeks we’ve been rebuilding our understanding of God’s original design.
Week 1 — God is King, and the earth was created to be governed by Heaven.
Week 2 — What Adam lost was restored through Jesus.
Week 3 — Dominion is responsibility, not control, lived out daily.
Tonight we answer a personal question:
👉 Who are we now?
👉 Why does life feel so heavy at times?
👉 What does it really mean to belong to the Kingdom of God?
Tonight we’re talking about citizenship —
not religion,
not church attendance,
but Kingdom citizenship.”
PRAYER
PRAYER
“Father, give us understanding.
Not tradition — truth.
Not fear — clarity.
Help us see Your original intent.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
STEP 1 — WHAT IS KINGDOM CITIZENSHIP?
STEP 1 — WHAT IS KINGDOM CITIZENSHIP?
“Citizenship answers one question:
‘Who governs my life?’
In any kingdom, citizenship determines:
• authority
• culture
• values
• protection
• responsibility
Citizenship is not about where you live —
it’s about who you represent.”
📖 Philippians 3:20
“Our citizenship is in heaven…”
“This does not mean heaven is our home.
It means:
➡ Heaven is our government.
Citizens don’t supply themselves —
the government takes responsibility for its citizens.”
STEP 2 — HUMANS WERE NEVER DESIGNED TO LIVE IN HEAVEN
STEP 2 — HUMANS WERE NEVER DESIGNED TO LIVE IN HEAVEN
“Myles Munroe taught this clearly:
Humans were never created to live in heaven.
They were created to live on earth.”
📖 Genesis 1:26–28
“God created man and placed him on earth — not heaven.
Adam was never meant to go to heaven.
Heaven was meant to govern earth.”
📖 Psalm 115:16
“The heavens belong to the Lord,
but the earth He has given to mankind.”
“Heaven is God’s throne.
Earth is man’s domain.
Heaven is not our home —
earth is our assignment.”
STEP 3 — WHAT IS HEAVEN TO US?
STEP 3 — WHAT IS HEAVEN TO US?
“Heaven is:
• the seat of government
• the source of authority
• the headquarters of the Kingdom
Myles said:
Heaven is not the destination of the believer.
It is the source of the believer’s authority.
We don’t live in heaven.
We live from heaven.”
STEP 4 — CITIZENSHIP IS NOT ESCAPE
STEP 4 — CITIZENSHIP IS NOT ESCAPE
“Many of us were taught, ‘This world is not my home.’
But that mindset produces believers who disengage from responsibility.
If earth doesn’t matter,
we won’t steward relationships, families, work, or cities well.
Kingdom citizenship says:
➡ Stay engaged
➡ Take responsibility
➡ Represent Heaven here”
📖 Matthew 6:10
“Your Kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth…”
STEP 5 — WE ARE AMBASSADORS
STEP 5 — WE ARE AMBASSADORS
📖 2 Corinthians 5:20
“We are ambassadors for Christ…”
“An ambassador:
• lives in a foreign land
• represents their government
• carries authority
• does not create their own message
You are not a visitor on earth.
You are Heaven’s representative.”
STEP 6 — WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE?
STEP 6 — WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE?
“Yes, Scripture teaches that believers are with the Lord after death.”
📖 2 Corinthians 5:8
“But that is not the final plan.
The Bible ends with Heaven coming to Earth.”
📖 Revelation 21:1–3
“God’s original plan was not abandoned — it was delayed.
The end goal is Heaven and Earth reunited.”
STEP 7 — CITIZENS LIVE BY HEAVEN’S CULTURE
STEP 7 — CITIZENS LIVE BY HEAVEN’S CULTURE
📖 Romans 14:17
“The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy…”
That means:
• peace instead of anxiety
• integrity instead of compromise
• love instead of fear
Citizenship shapes behavior.”
STEP 8 — CITIZENSHIP REQUIRES A RENEWED MIND
STEP 8 — CITIZENSHIP REQUIRES A RENEWED MIND
📖 Romans 12:2
Old system thinking:
• survival
• fear
• control
Kingdom thinking:
• trust
• stewardship
• responsibility
Renewed minds respond differently.”
5‑MINUTE ACTIVATION MOMENT
5‑MINUTE ACTIVATION MOMENT
Leader says:
“Before we leave, we’re going to take a moment to align our hearts.”
“Close your eyes if you’re comfortable.
Place one hand over your heart.”
“Ask yourself quietly:
‘Where have I been trying to govern my life without God?’”
(pause)
“Now say quietly:
‘I place this back under Your government, Lord.’”
(pause)
“You are not alone.
You are not forgotten.
You are a citizen of Heaven’s Kingdom.”
“Say quietly or in your heart:
‘Heaven is my government.
Earth is my assignment.’”
ACTIVATION PRAYER
ACTIVATION PRAYER
“Father, thank You for trusting me with the earth.
Teach me to think like a citizen,
to live like an ambassador,
and to represent You well.
Align my mind with Your Kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
DECLARATION (TOGETHER)
DECLARATION (TOGETHER)
“I am a citizen of Heaven’s Kingdom.
Heaven is my government.
Earth is my assignment.
I live to represent God’s will and character.
Amen.”
CLOSING
CLOSING
“Family, citizenship answers who we are.
Next week we’ll talk about The Embassy —
what the Church really is
and why Kingdom community matters.”
