V. 12
What do you think it means that the Word of God is living and active?
God’s Word flows the ever-working powerful God, and it is consistently being used to accomplish the means God has for it.

10  “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven

and do not return there but water the earth,

making it bring forth and sprout,

giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

11  so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;

it shall not return to me empty,

but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,

and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

What is the author’s point in comparing the Word to a sword?
It is the primary means by which God convicts us of our sin, and need for salvation.
How is it that the Word works in us? What are the common ways, and what is the driving force?
Additional Thoughts
Piercing comfort- the word of God lays open our souls, convicts us of sin, and yet is the primary means by which God gives comfort to His people.
Beware of making too much of the authors language.
