Personal Growth: Grow Yourself to Grow Everything

Summary of the Text

Personal growth is the foundation of success, leadership, and lasting impact. Growth requires intentional change, discipline, and a willingness to leave comfort zones. Without growth, potential remains unrealised. Growth is not automatic—it is a daily choice. When we grow, we elevate ourselves and those around us. True success flows from who we become, not just what we achieve.
Key ideas include:
Growth requires change; without change, growth is impossible.
Growth is optional, but reaching potential is impossible without it.
Success comes as a result of growth, not as a substitute for it.
Intentional personal development leads to maturity, leadership, and significance.
Growth multiplies impact—when you grow, others grow.

OPENING SCRIPTURE

John 12:24 (KJV) “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”
Beloved, you cannot grow anything—your ministry, your family, your career, your impact—until you grow yourself.
Jesus teaches us a spiritual law in John 12:24: No death, no fruit. No surrender, no multiplication. No growth, no impact.
Many people want fruit, success, influence, and breakthrough—but they refuse the process that produces it.
Growth is not automatic. Growth is intentional.
Robert Browning said: “Why stay on the earth except to grow?”
Yet many people stay alive but stop growing.

1. GROWTH REQUIRES DEATH AND CHANGE

John 12:24 — “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies…”
Growth begins with death—the death of:
Old habits
Old mindsets
Old limitations
Old comfort zones
FEAR!!
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

🔑 Key Emphasis:

No change, no growth. No death, no fruit.

🏙️ Modern Application:

You cannot keep the same routines and expect a new future.
You cannot stay in the same mindset and expect a new level.
Growth requires letting go of what is familiar but unfruitful. Jesus Said to PETER LAUCH INTO THE DEEP

The Foundation of Growth

Step 1: Understand the Principle
You cannot grow anything until you grow yourself.
Scripture: John 12:24 — Death before fruitfulness.
Key Truth: Growth starts inside before it shows outside.

2. GROWTH IS OPTIONAL, NOT AUTOMATIC

Change is inevitable. Growth is a choice.

The Choice to Grow

Step 3: Make Growth a Personal Decision
Growth is optional.
People unwilling to grow will never reach their potential.
Key Truth: Growth is not automatic — it is chosen.
Deuteronomy 30:19 “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life…”
Many people grow older but never grow better.

🔑 Key Emphasis:

People unwilling to grow will never reach their potential.

🏙️ Modern Application:

You can attend church every week and still not grow.
You can work every day and still not improve.
You can be busy without becoming better.

3. GROWTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SUCCESS.

Growth Over Success

Choose Growth, Not Success
Success will come as a result of growth.
Success without growth leads to collapse.
Key Truth: Growth sustains success.
Matthew 16:26 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Success without growth leads to:
Burnout
Pride
Collapse
Loss of character

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Choose a life of growth, not just a life of success. Success will come—but growth must come first.

🏙️ Modern Application:

You can get promoted faster than your character can handle.
You can gain money faster than your wisdom can manage.
You can gain influence faster than your integrity can sustain.

4. GROWTH BEGINS WITH A DECISION

Daniel 1:8 “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself…”
Growth begins when you purpose in your heart.

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Growth is not accidental. Growth is intentional.

🏙️ Modern Application:

Decide: “I will read.”
Decide: “I will learn.”
Decide: “I will develop.”
Decide: “I will not remain average.”

5. GROWTH IS FUELED BY PASSION AND PURSUIT

Passion and Pursuit

Commit to the Growth Journey
Growth requires passion, discipline, and consistency.
Growth must be daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
Key Truth: Passion fuels persistence.
Philippians 3:13–14 “Forgetting those things which are behind… I press toward the goal…”
Growth requires:
Hunger
Discipline
Persistence

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Nothing is more effective in reaching your potential than a commitment to personal growth.

🏙️ Modern Application:

Growth requires daily deposits: reading, prayer, learning, reflection.
Growth requires weekly reflection.
Growth requires yearly evaluation.

6. GROWTH TRANSFORMS FAILURE INTO FUTURE FRUIT

Growth Through Failure

Turn Failure into Fuel
Failure is not final — it is instructional.
Lessons last longer than success.
Key Truth: Failure becomes power when you learn from it.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…”
Failure is not the opposite of growth—it is often the classroom of growth.

🔑 Key Emphasis:

A lesson learned produces returns for a lifetime.

🏙️ Modern Application:

Your divorce can become your wisdom.
Your business failure can become your blueprint.
Your mistakes can become your message.

7. GROWTH RAISES YOUR LEADERSHIP LID

Growth and Leadership

Step 7: Raise Your Leadership Lid
Your growth determines your team’s growth.
You attract who you are.
To raise others, you must raise yourself.
Key Truth: You cannot lead beyond who you are.
Proverbs 11:14 “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

🔑 Key Emphasis:

You attract who you are, not who you want.
If you want:
Better team → Become a better leader
Better children → Become a better parent
Better church → Become a better servant

🏙️ Modern Application:

Stop trying to fix people. Start fixing yourself. When you grow, everyone around you grows.

8. GROWTH IS NOT ABOUT DESTINATION, BUT TRANSFORMATION

2 Corinthians 3:18 “We are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory…”

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Growth’s highest reward is not what you get, but who you become.

🏙️ Modern Application:

It’s not the job that changes you—it’s who you become on the journey.
It’s not the title—it’s the transformation.
It’s not the breakthrough—it’s the becoming.

9. GROWTH LEADS TO SIGNIFICANCE, NOT JUST SUCCESS

Growth into Significance

Step 8: Move from Success to Significance
Success is what happens to you.
Significance is what happens through you.
Growth multiplies impact.
Key Truth: Growth transforms success into legacy.
Matthew 20:26 “Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.”

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Success is what happens to you. Significance is what happens through you.

🏙️ Modern Application:

Success builds a platform.
Growth builds a person.
Significance builds others.

10. GROWTH IS THE GUARANTEE THAT TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER

Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”

🔑 Key Emphasis:

Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow will be better than today.

🏙️ Modern Application:

If today is hard, grow. If today is good, grow. If today is successful, grow. If today is painful, grow.

FINAL CHALLENGE: CHOOSE GROWTH

Beloved, I challenge you:
Not to choose comfort — choose growth
Not to choose success — choose growth
Not to choose ease — choose growth
Not to choose survival — choose growth
Ecclesiastes 7:8 “The end of a thing is better than its beginning…”
But only if you grow.
Conclusion .

Growth Planning

Step 9: Create a Personal Growth Plan
Identify where you want to grow.
Set clear, measurable goals.
Track progress consistently.
Key Truth: Growth without a plan is accidental.

Growth as a Lifestyle

Step 10: Live a Growth- Centered Life
Don’t go through life — grow through life.
Growth is lifelong.
Growth guarantees a better tomorrow.
Key Truth: Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow will be better.
Let’s pray:
“Lord, I choose growth over comfort. I choose change over familiarity. I choose transformation over stagnation. I choose becoming over remaining. I choose growth in Jesus’ name. Amen.
