Intro
2 Timothy 4:1–8 ESV
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. But as for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

The Church Must preach the word faithfully, verse by verse
We do this by exegetical preaching
Exegetical preaching centers on making the explanation of Scripture the dominant feature of the sermon.
Basically the preacher seeks to make the main point of his sermon whatever the main point of the passage is.
How does this help and matter to the believer?
Because it helps the believer to be ready for every season of their life.
2 Timothy 4:1–2 “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
Scripture builds you up, corrects you, encourages you and instructs you to live a righteous and fulfilled life.
We have to hear sermons each Sunday that use scripture to stir us up to love and good deeds.
Preaching verse by verse exegetically teaches us sound doctrine which is cold water for the thirsty soul
But get this some people can not stand sound doctrine
>SLIDE
The time is here when people can not endure sound doctrine
Some churches have sacrificed sound doctrine to be seeker friendly.
Some church do not preach exegetically because they want to avoid controversial topics or teachings that might offend
Their ears itch for teaching that confirms their world view instead of convicts their sin.
Some ask questions not because they want answers but because they want confirmation
When a church does not preach verse by verse or ignore parts of the Bible they don’t like, they risk turning from the truth and wandering into whatever teaching suits them best.
Instead we must preach with conviction instead of caution
But the Bible has a different plan for you

But as for You, you are called to keep the faith at all costs.
2 Timothy 4:5–7 “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
We are called to keep the faith meaning to love Jesus with all our hearts and keep his commandments.
John 14:15 ““If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Paul explains here in 2 Timothy that keeping the faith along with what I mentioned above looks like being:
sober minded, suffering for the gospel and sharing your faith and not quitting when the trials come.
We must keep the faith at all costs, meaning that we must be willing to endure persecution of all kinds for the faith.
Paul says he is being poured out like a drink offering, what does he mean by this?? He means that he has undergone immense persecution for his faith and guess what, he knows that he is going to die for it.

and the time of my departure has come

This battle we as believers are in, its a fight to the death

Men and women of God are called to Fight the good fight.
We have a purpose a holy mission. We are warriors of the Kingdom of heaven who do not fight with guns or swords but with holy flames of the Holy Spirit
We must recognize that we are called to be different, set apart, we are called to fight.
We fight not territorial gain or the riches of men but hearts of mankind.
We are called to preach the word faithfully in every season so that we can fight for the kingdom if God and one day win the war for eternity.
You are not young men and women, your not students or kids but you are missionaries, movement makers and worriers for the Kingdom of Jesus
And guess what

Conclusion
When you fight the good fight, faithfully preaching the word You have a crown of glory awaiting you in heaven
2 Timothy 4:8 “Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
There is a crown waiting for all those who wait patient love for the Lord
