The Eighth [Commandment]
You are not to bear false witness against your neighbor.
What is this? Answer:
We are to fear and love God, so that we do not tell lies about our neighbors, betray or slander them, or destroy their reputations. Instead we are to come to their defense, speak well of them, and interpret everything they do in the best possible light.
The Eighth Commandment
I. The False Witnesses Open their Mouths
A. Seeking false testimony against Jesus
i. That they might put him to death
ii. But they found none
iii. though many false witnesses came forward
B. False Testimony Found:
iii. What Jesus actually said,
20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
