We all have things we’re afraid of. Snakes, public speaking, and small con ned spaces will likely appear in a poll of your Bible study group. As children, we may have feared separation from our parents, and as adults many of us fear separation from God. We hope that, in the end, we’ll be OK, but can we be sure? Romans 8 makes it clear that separation from God and His love is something we need never fear.

Make room as dark as possible…think about something that makes you afraid. Ask yourself what is would take to overcome that fear.

God Guarantees Our Good

Romans 8:31–34 ESV
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
We will experience trouble in this life.
Jesus endured suffering on our behalf.
We were raised with Jesus and are approved by God.

At times We May Question God’s Goodness

Picture a small lake in the north when winter has just made itself at home. A wooden dock juts out into the thin shell of ice on the pond. Over the whole scene lies a cotton cushion of snow. A young lad walks out onto the dock, long familiar to him from lazy summer days of fishing. He daydreams at the end of the dock, but suddenly his sister’s call from shore arouses him. As he turns around to see her, he loses his balance, one of his feet lands on the ice, and he crashes into the icy water.

You see, as long as both his feet were solidly planted on the wooden dock, the boy stood securely. But as soon as he shifted one foot to the ice, even though by mistake, he toppled into the water.

As long as we keep our trust totally on Christ’s finished work on the cross, we stand assured of God’s promise of eternal life. But as soon as we rest any weight on the thin ice of our own efforts, we will topple into the icy waters of insecurity.

Romans 8:35–36 ESV
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Romans 8:
Paul experienced the worst kinds of hardship.
We will experience similar things.
At times we may fail to see how god is working in our lives.

We Will Overcome All Hardship By Jesus’ Power

God’s love is more powerful than sin
We can experience victory by god’s love in our lives.
God’s children are eternally secure because He loves us.
