41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

What does living around people and showing them love and Jesus look like?

What True Love Looks like

Multiple times told Jesus loves this family

His response isnt what we would think “waited two days longer” They were close

Jesus rebukes softly.

It is all for the glory of God, so that the son of God could be glorified.

God Who Mourns

Jesus gets there Martha and Mary are a little upset.

We can relate

Even after all the things we have seen, they don’t think Jesus can do this and he is about to prove who he is.

Jesus weeps, Also weeps over the city, because he understands the suffering.

Defeats Death

Everything comes to a point in this scene “ I am the ressurection”

This guy is super deadd

Set up like a big end of movie fight, and then right at the climax of the story we see who is out matched

He spoke, “Come out”

This is the Glory of God and Glory of the Son.

Not just for Mary and the disciples, but for all those around as well.

We need to love like Jesus

We know the greatest commandment

What does love look like, what does it look like to love those around us? No greater love than this, becuase laying down ones life points to Jesus. When we love others, its for the sole purpose of Glorifying God and Glorifying Jesus.

We live, we eat, we care, we call to repentance, because we show a little bit of who God is.

WHen you love, are people drawn more to jesus or more away from Jesus

What that looks likee

Romans 12:9–21 ESV

9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

These are the ways Jesus loves, and glorifies God.

There are hard ones, Bless those who are against you

Parents, kids, enemies, colleagues etc

Rejoice and weep

Repay no evil for evil

Feed, Provide, Love him to death

Live like Death is real, but is defeated

4 days and 4 days are basically the same.

Death is real, and its coming, but there is a saviour that has defeated it and you can share in his victory

When we see others they are not in that victory, so you are looking at someone who is really going to die, and suffer what it is to die. This should generate it in us to love, to show others the glory of the father.

Trust God, in the suffering, that that is what he is doing as well.
