“Make A Decision”

If you could live any type of way with no consequences, how would you live?
Recap
Colossians 2:14 ESV
by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Debt (A spiritual ledger)
Colossians 2:16–17 ESV
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Colossians 2:23 ESV
These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
Colossians 3:1 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:2 ESV
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Colossians 3:3 ESV
For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:4 ESV
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Colossians 3:5 ESV
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
In Colossians 3:5, impurity refers to inner moral pollution, not just outward actions.
A clear example of impurity:
A person who avoids physical sexual sin, but regularly entertains lustful thoughts, fantasies, or images that shape their desires and attitudes toward others.

Passion Core meaning

Pathos refers to desire that has taken control.
It means:
being ruled by appetite
losing self-governance
allowing emotion or craving to drive decisions

How “passion” differs from “impurity”

Impurity = polluted inner life (what you allow in)
Passion = desire that now drives behavior

A clear example of “evil desire”

Wanting something so badly that you are willing to compromise obedience, integrity, or relationships to get
Think of it this way:
evil desire shapes what you want
passion shapes how you act

The List (Verse 5)

Paul names five things that belong to the old life:
Sexual immorality – sinful outward sexual behavior
Impurity – unclean thoughts and inner life
Passion – being ruled by uncontrolled desire
Evil desire – distorted longings that compete with God
Covetousness (idolatry) – wanting something more than God
Colossians 3:6 ESV
On account of these the wrath of God is coming.
Colossians 3:7–8 ESV
In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.
Colossians 3:9 ESV
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices
Colossians 3:10 ESV
and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
