I dont think i have told yall quiet enough yet, how thankful and humbled I am by the kindness, love, and support each one of you has shown not only to me, but to my family as well. Im also very thankful for God and how in His sovereignty led me here to Akron Baptist. I pray you all have been blessed just as much as i have over these past few months.
Ill be honest with you here as well, its kinda hard to get up here and preach the word after we just had Brother Allen up here.
But, we are going to get through this one way or another though. This morning the scripture verse i want to work from is a very simple one. Its just one small verse but it explains in great detail what i want to preach to you today. Its not only something we should live by, but something that we should learn to accept even in the darkest moments of life. So if you will turn in your bibles to Psalm 24 and we will be lookin only at verse 1. Its not that im neglecting the rest of the chapter, I dont want you to think that, its just that this verse is the basis of what i want you to see today. And you know me, i like to use scripture to reference scripture. So you should already expect me to have other verses that build up on our main scripture for today.
You know, We as people, we love our possessions dont we? They mean a lot to us sometimes. It might be things you worked hard to get, or something sentimental passed down to you. We love to say with pride, this is MY new boat, MY new car, Our new house., or thats my beautiful wife- or my handsome husband, or my children. Its like ive said before, its a me me me mentality in todays world. I mean to me it just seems natural that people are so possessive . When you were working, you basically sold chunks of YOUR time using what you call YOUR skill, in return for money. And like i said a moment ago, it seems natural to assume that all those things are yours. But i believe at base level this is just simply idolatry.
So lets read this verse together , then expand it further out.
Psalm 24:1 simply reads,
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
