Romans 1:1–7 “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The People and the Gospel
The Servant—v. 1
Paul was calle dto be and apostle for the preaching of the Gospel, Acts 9:1-6
The Scriptures—v. 2
God promised the gospel through the prophets— Luke 24:44; Heb 1:1
The Son— v. 3-6
The Incarnation— v. 3
The Word Became Flesh— John 1:14; Phil 2:5-8
The Infallibly— v. 4
The Perfect Son of God— Col. 2:9. In him dwells the power of God
The Impact— v. 5-6
When we are converted, we are commanded to share the Gospel— Mark 15:16
The Saints— v. 7
To all the saints at Rome, grace and peace.
“called to be saints.” — 1 Peter 5:10 “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
The calling of being a saint isn’t one for the faint of heart. Being called to be a saint may be a calling to suffer for a while.
