Seeking for a Sign
Seeking for a Sign
The religious leaders wanted to see a sign before they would believe.
John 6:30 “So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?”
Christ had done more than enough to prove He was the Messiah.
See John 20:30-31, 21:25...
John 5:36 “But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.”
John 3:2 “This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”” (see John 2:23)
The many signs Jesus did was never enough for the Pharisees.
John 12:37 “Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,”
2 Timothy 3:7 “always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”
The Sign of Jonah
The Sign of Jonah
Jesus said that His death and resurrection would be the ultimate sign.
Luke 9:22 “saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.””
For some people, even that wouldn’t be enough.
Luke 16:30–31 “And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’ ””
The Day of Judgment
The Day of Judgment
On the Day of Judgment, those who received less proof, but still believed, will condemn those who received more proof but refused to believe.
See Hebrews 2:1-4...
The more proof you are given, the more strictly you will be judged.
Luke 12:47–48 “And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a lite beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”
See Matthew 11:20-24...
