Supremacy of Christ (Part 1)

Hebrews 1:7–8 KJV 1900
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

God has something to say.

God has something to say.

In times past he spoke to the fathers by the prophets. Now he speaks to us by his son.
Hebrews 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Hebrews 1:1–4 KJV 1900
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews declares
Hebrews declares the supremacy of Christ.
++The supremacy of Christ.
++Christ is the key to understanding our relationship to God.
Without.
The ultimate message
++Salvation can be found in no other
++Its in Christ alone
This is
++A radical message.
++A ridiculous message
++A restricted message

The message of Christ causes problems to the carnal mind.

Romans 8:7 KJV 1900
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
The carnal mind seek
The carnal mind seek
++To evaluate
++To validate
++To vindicate
Ultimately human wisdom
++Looks for a reason
++Seeks alternative
++Controlled by rebellion.
Rebellion is the sin of witchcraft.
1 Samuel 15:23 KJV 1900
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
Rebellion is to say
To say God has a plan and not participate in it is rebellion
++God has a plan and not participate.
++I believe the Bible and not read.
++I believe God and not obey him.

The spirit of rebellion seeks an alternative to simple obedience.

When we seek alternatives
++We are blinded to truth.
++We are calloused toward God's real plan.
++We kick against the Goads.
Because we have settled for a substitute.

A substitute can never replace obedience.

Hebrews 1:7–9 KJV 1900
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 1:1
God is talking.
God is talking.
++Of angels
++Of Ministers
++ Of His son
Of angels
++Spirits
++Wind
Of Ministers
++Flames
++Fire
Of his son
++His Authority
++His throne

Forever

Wind and fire
++Are powerful forces
++They can create
++They can destroy
++Both are temporary

But the rule of His son is permanent

Today it is easy to be fascinated
++By the movement of the spirit
++By the fervent heat of the presence of God.
++The power of God.

A cooperate experience is a poor replacement to a personal understanding of the Lordship of Christ.

His rule is Forever.

Hebrews 1:10–12 KJV 1900
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

His rule is Unchanging

10 And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; 11 they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, 12 l

John 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Hebrews 1:10–12
John
John 1:3 KJV 1900
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:1-2
John 1:14 KJV 1900
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
By Jesus Christ
Hebrews 13:8 KJV 1900
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
The Lord made it all
The Lord made it all
The Lord made it all
++The heavens
++The earth
++And everything in it
The only thing that will last
++Is the rule of his throne.
Now it is time that believers
++Garner a new perspective.
++Recognize the thing of greatest value.
It is not our stuff
++Power
++Position
++Possessions
His rule in our life provides
++Identity
++Purpose

Purpose is not established but talent but but obedience.
