Wait on the LORD

Luke 24:49 NKJV
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Acts 1:4–8 NKJV
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Isaiah 40:27–31 NKJV
Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

We have a commission

It is a GREAT commission.
It is a GOD-SIZED commission.
It is a GLOBAL commission.
It is a GOING commission.

We need the power of the Holy Spirit

We cannot do God’s work in our power, wisdom, strength, and resources.
We must have the power of the Holy Spirit.
The first church EXPECTED the Holy Spirit (Waited).
The first church EMBRACED the Holy Spirit (Welcomed).
The first church was EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit (Anointing).
The first church ENDURED because of the Holy Spirit (Grace).
The first church EXCELLED because of the Holy Spirit (Excellence).
Excellence is not perfectionism. It is doing the best you can do with what you have.
We must not “leave home without it” (American Express slogan)

Where is God?

Does He know? “My way is hidden from Him”
Does He care? “My just claim is passed over by Him”

God is still God!

He is the everlasting God! (Eternal)
He is the LORD! (I AM—Past, Present, Future)
He is the Creator of the ends of the earth! (Architect, Designer, Planner, Engineer, Manager, Builder)
He does not get tired or grow weary! (He is working and does not quit)
His understanding is unsearchable. (He knows what He is doing and what He is doing is beyond our ability to understand)
He gives power to the weak. (strength, vigor, capacity, means)
He increases strength to those who have no might. (He is the Source of strength that enables the weakest to become the strongest)

Men are still men!

Human ability and effort are insufficient for the task.
Even the youngest grow tired and weary.
Even the strongest fall.
Human determination does not determine the outcome.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 NKJV
I returned and saw under the sun that— the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

Those who wait on the LORD

WAIT (Hebrew: gavah): to gather, tarry, wait with expectancy
Shall renew their strength! (Recharge in God’s presence)
Shall mount up with wings like eagles! (Rise above the obstacles)
Shall run and not be weary! (Endure with patience)
Shall walk and not faint! (Persevere through daily challenges)

Response to the Word

We have a work to do.
We cannot do this work without God.
We must have the power of the Holy Spirit.
We must wait upon the LORD today and every day to receive divine power and ability.
