Pure: free from corrupt desire, from sin and guilt, free from every mixture of what is false, sincere genuine, blameless, innocent, unstained with the guilt of anything.
1 Timothy 1:5 ESV
5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
Matthew 5:8 ESV
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
What actions come from a pure heart?
2 Timothy 2:22 ESV
22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
It flees a youthful desire for what is forbidden.
It pursues a right standing with God.
It pursues what is of Faith.
It pursues love.
It pursues peace.
These are the actions of one with heart for God.
1 Timothy 6:11 ESV
11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
Paul is telling Timothy teach the church to flee from the the impure things of this world.
What we see is a pure heart pursues the things of God and it flees (runs) from the sins of this world.
Again we see what purity pursues:
Righteousness
GoDliness
Faith
Love
Steadfastness
Gentleness
1 Corinthians 14:1 ESV
1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
Hebrews 12:14 ESV
14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Psalm 34:11–19 ESV
11 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. 14 Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. 17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
When a man or woman of God fleas sin and pursues after the things of God what is there that God will withhold from you?
2 Timothy 3:10–17 ESV
10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
What is your heart fleeing and what is your heart pursuing ?
Psalm 51:10 ESV
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Now we are ready for this truth, if you are in Christ Jesus you have a new heart!
Ephesians 4:17–24 ESV
17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
