A Night Conversation

When do you have your best conversations?

What is the setting? For me, I love the evening setting with a cup of tea, yes I drink tea, in my hands.

Scripture reveals to us who God is.

Remember our passage, and all of Scripture is not meant to teach us about who we are. It is not a self-help book, it is the revelation of who God is. Yes, we can learn a lot about ourselves in Scripture.

Jesus was always “up” for conversations.

As we interact with our text this morning it is the first of at least 11 conversations Jesus has with individuals. Jesus was not “inconvenienced” by the time or the person.

Signs alone cannot produce faith/salvation.

Nicodemus and others see but we are meant to ask, does he believe?

Jesus is not an “add-on” option to life.

We need a replacement with true life not just something we “take” and then go on with what we want.

We must see Jesus exalted and lift Him up.

This is part of the meaning behind the verses of 14 and 15

Jesus came in love, with love, to redeem.

God was not angry at the world and so “did something about it”. God loved the world so much he “did something about it”.

Jesus light reveals darkness.

We on our own cannot reveal darkness. Jesus did not come condemning but because of his life light shown what was really going on.

Stay with Jesus. Stay in His Word! Stay with people who can hold you accountable! Accountability is not a burden it is freedom.

John 1:4–5 NIV

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
