The study of Sin
Sin’s Origin Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.”

Soteriology Introduction
Soteriology Introduction
Ology means the study of
Soteri comes from the Greek word soteria which means “salvation”
So Soteriology is the study of salvation.
We are going to be spending the rest of our Awana year talking about soteriology, the study of salvation.
What does salvation mean?
To be saved from something
What are we in need of being saved from?
Short Book definition: “Salvation is a term that covers the entire program of God’s sovereign work of saving sinners.”
What does sovereign mean.
Election
What does election mean?
To be chosen
Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.””
Who are the few that are going to be chosen, elected, what are they chosen for, or chosen to do.
Salvation
Salvation is to be saved from something
What are those who God chooses being saved from?
Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.””
How are many called?
The gift of salvation is open to all to have faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior
Why don’t all have faith in Christ and be saved?
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
Romans 3:10–11 “as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”
Fallen man will not choose God because of sin and it’s curse.
How can anyone be saved then?
God chooses some to send the Holy Spirit in and change their heart
Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
Turn to and read Ephesians 1:4–10 “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
Why are only a few chosen?
God is sovereign.
What He wants to do He will do
What he does is always good and will always in the end be show His glory.
Adoption
God is choosing his children just as some parents choose children to adopt.
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
No one deserves to be adopted by God and chosen for salvation
The wages of sin is death and all have sinned.
God’s love is the reason any are chosen, or elected for salvation.
