Our will for His will
Our will for His will
Jesus is in the garden praying at the end of his ministry and He Prays “Not my will but yours be done”.
This is not the first time he submits his will to the father’s will.
Let’s look at several times Jesus submits his will to His Father’s will.
49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”
17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
28 So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. 29 And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.
Jesus is trying to tell us that the will of the Father is everything
Jesus is trying to tell us that the will of the Father is everything
Nothing else matters but the will of the Father.
Jesus wanted to do the Father’s will.
He wanted to speak the Father’s will.
Live it, breathe it, think it.
The secret to accomplishing the mission of God on the earth is surrendering to the will of God.
We must be surrendered to the Father’s will.
We don’t want to go around using the name of Jesus for anything that the Father hasn’t given the go ahead to do.
If we are about the Father’s business, the Father says what projects need to be done.
The business example:
In business, if you work for someone, that business owner gets to say what needs to be done.
You don’t go around using the equipment and company resources to just do anything you want.
No, you wait for direction and scope of the work.
In fact we could mess things up and cause more work for ourselves and the father if we are out here doing things that the Lord hasn’t told us to do.
It’s such a great analogy that we are referred to as the children of God.
How often do you wish your children would just do what you ask them to do.
Instead they make mud pies and want you to be proud of them.
The most important thing for us as Christians is to model after jesus and spend time with the Father.
The Father will tell us what to do.
We hear Him to know His will
We hear Him to know His will
Jesus modeled how to hear the Father’s voice.
Get alone and pray.
Active Listening to the Father’s voice.
The father’s voice will only speak the Father’s will.
The Father’s voice won’t contradict the Father’s word
The Father’s voice won’t contradict the Father’s word
David was a foreshadow of Jesus.
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Joshua Says -
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Everytime Jesus was tempted - - - He would respond with what statement?
“IT IS WRITTEN”
Jesus knew the will of the Father because He knew the word of the Father
Jesus knew the will of the Father because He knew the word of the Father
If it’s the Father’s will, it has the Father’s Favor
If it’s the Father’s will, it has the Father’s Favor
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
God moves heaven and earth to accomplish His will.
If we want to see real change and real progress - - - We must desire the will of the Father.
Not my will but yours be done!
On Good days and on bad days.
