“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had and bought it.
When I was younger I did a lot at church, I sang, I even led a bible study. None of it was worth anything because I did it only to be seen by the people around me. I liked the attention I got from it. Often we think about church or the things of God as a chore or as something that we do only because of our parents. What if Christianity was so much more than a set of rules our parents struggle to follow but expect us to do perfectly? What if the faith was so much more than sitting in a seat on Sunday morning? We’re told that the Gospel is important, I want to look at that.
The Gospel is a Treasure
The Gospel is a Treasure
What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is what saves us
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.
The Gospel is a gift
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—
The Gospel is a treasure
The Gospel is a treasure
You are a sinner separated from God so you stand condemned, so God through Christ Jesus came down and lived a perfect life to then die on a cross. On the cross He didn't just get beat, or spat on, or even murdered… He took your sins on himself and He took Gods wrath for you so that He could give you His righteousness.
You are separated from God
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
Adam and Eve brought sin into the world
Sin is missing the mark
Sin separates us from God
Jesus reconciles you back to God
That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.
Reconciliation is when a relationship is fixed
they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Jesus makes us right by taking on our sins on the cross
We should’ve been punished for our sins but we aren't because Christ was punished instead of us
We should be condemned but because of the work of Christ we don't have to be!
Jesus makes us new
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
If we are in Christ God has forgiven and forgotten about our past!
We need to be made new
Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.
In Christ we are born again!
God gives us a new purpose and mission! To share the Gospel
Giving everything up is a blessing
Giving everything up is a blessing
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had and bought it.
So you found the treasure… The Gospel of Jesus Christ! What now?
The Gospel should mean so much, be so valuable that you are willing to give up everything for it.
More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ
This Paul, who had everything; the education, the recognition, the position but gave it all up to have more of Christ, more of the Gospel.
The things of the world are worthless
For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life?
The sin, relationships or things you're holding on to are worthless
This life will end
It takes losing your life to find it.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Where are you today?
have you found the buried treasure and are running to sell everything for it or are you still looking in the wrong places?
Are you living as someone who has given it all up for Jesus? do you need help and guidance to do that better?
