Being Established by the Lord Takes Being Strong in Faith

Isaiah 7:9 (NLT)

“…Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.”

I. THE PRINCIPLE: FAITH IS THE FOUNDATION OF STABILITY

Isaiah spoke these words to King Ahaz during a time of national crisis. Armies were threatening Judah. Fear was rising. Pressure was intense.

God’s message was simple:

If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.

Key Truth:

Spiritual establishment is connected to spiritual confidence.

You cannot be established in:

Marriage

Leadership

Finances

Ministry

Calling

…without being established in faith.

Supporting Scriptures

2 Chronicles 20:20 (NKJV) “Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

Romans 5:1–2 (NLT) “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand…”

Notice: faith brings you into a place where you stand.

II. MEN ARE CALLED TO BE STABLE, NOT SHAKEN

In our culture, men are often shaken by:

Economic pressure

Family stress

Political instability

Personal failure

But Scripture calls men to spiritual stability.

1 Corinthians 16:13 (NKJV) “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”

Being strong in faith is not emotional hype. It is disciplined trust in God’s Word.

III. ILLUSTRATION: TWO FOUNDATIONS

Jesus gave the illustration in Matthew 7:24–27:

The house on the rock stood. The house on the sand fell.

The difference was not the storm. The difference was the foundation.

A man’s life will face storms:

Financial storms

Health storms

Attacks on his household

Spiritual warfare

If faith is shallow, collapse is inevitable. If faith is rooted in the Word, stability is guaranteed.

IV. FAITH IS WHAT MAKES A MAN ESTABLISHED

1. Faith Anchors You to God’s Character

Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) “Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Faith is confidence in who God is.

2. Faith Anchors You to God’s Promises

2 Peter 1:12 (NKJV) “Be established in the present truth.”

You cannot be established in what you do not know.

Strong men are Word men.

3. Faith Anchors You During Delay

Abraham waited decades for Isaac.

Romans 4:20 (NLT) “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger…”

Strong faith grows under pressure.

V. HISTORICAL ILLUSTRATION: GEORGE MÜLLER

George Müller ran orphanages in England caring for over 10,000 children — without asking anyone for money.

He relied solely on prayer and faith in God’s promises.

One morning, there was no food for the children. They sat at the table and thanked God for breakfast anyway. Moments later:

A baker knocked — he couldn’t sleep and had baked bread.

A milk cart broke down in front of the orphanage.

Faith established his ministry for decades.

He once wrote:

“The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith; and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.”

Established men are not panic-driven — they are promise-driven.

VI. WHY SOME MEN ARE NOT ESTABLISHED

Inconsistent Word intake

Double-mindedness

Emotional decision-making

Lack of prayer life

James 1:8 (NKJV) “He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

Unstable faith produces unstable living.

VII. HOW TO BECOME STRONG IN FAITH

1. Feed Daily on the Word

Romans 10:17 (NLT) “Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.”

2. Speak What God Says

Faith is voice-activated.

Mark 11:23 (NKJV) “Whoever says to this mountain…”

3. Refuse Fear

Isaiah 7 context was fear-based leadership.

God was telling Ahaz: Don’t let fear decide your future.

4. Stay Connected to Other Strong Men

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron…”

Faith grows in fellowship.

VIII. WORD OF FAITH EMPHASIS

Being established is not passive.

It is:

Believing God

Declaring His promises

Acting in obedience

Standing when others fall

Faith is not denial of reality. It is confidence in a higher reality.

CLOSING EXHORTATION

Isaiah 7:9 is not a threat — it is an invitation.

God is saying: “If you will stand in faith, I will make you stand firm.”

Strong faith produces:

Strong marriages

Strong leadership

Strong churches

Strong legacies

Men who are strong in faith become pillars in the house of God.
