A Passion for Souls

Sunday Morning 2/22/26

Text: James 5:20 “Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

James 1:21 “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Introduction:

This morning I would like to touch on a topic that all of us need to hear from time to time. And that is having a passion for souls

Passion: Zeal; vehement desire, love

The March tract challenges has been one of my favorite events that we have as a church, because it makes us aware of passing out tracts. But tracts alone does not mean that we have a passion for souls like we ought to have.

In order to have a passion for anything you must first have an understanding of that something.

If you have eve had a passion for a certain hobby you probably know a lot about that specific hobby.

Today we need understanding on a few aspects that will enable us to have a passion for souls.

Understanding the soul’s need

The soul was made to house God! It is the deepest part of an individual that connects them with God. A soul without God is void of what it is supposed to be.

The unsaved soul needs God, and in order for that to take place, they need salvation.

Jesus Christ is God’s greatest gift to the human race, because by him came salvation.

None of us could do it in and of ourself. We needed someone who knew no sin to become sin so that we can get to heaven by his work that was done on the cross!

Understanding the Christian’s need

Things that have no part in our life

James 1:21 first needs to be a part of us. Sometimes it think we might think as if once we are saved than filthiness wont be a part of us anymore, but for many of us. It is a struggle to keep all the filthiness out. Sometimes we enjoy our sin to much and God can use us to the greatest extent that he would like to.

Moral impurity, and an abundance of wickedness/evil. Hostility, hateful feeling.

These things ought not to be a part of a Christian, they should not be anywhere on the mind of a Christian if they want to accomplish seeing souls saved.

Requirement for the Passion

Receive with humility God’s Word!!!

Engrafted - Established, implanted.

God’s word is True!!! believe it! hold onto the truths that you find in God’s word

Allow it to mold you and change you the way in which it can do, but it will only do that if we have the meekness enough to accept our need.

When was the last time God spoke to your heart through his word? If it hasn’t been recently, you probably do not have the passion you ought to for souls

Understanding God’s need

Matthew 9:38 “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

God needs you.

He needs workers in the fields that are willing to seek for the lost soul. I again am excited about our upcoming events. Tract challenge and so on, because it motivates us as a church to go out and see lives changed by working in the Lord’s harvest.

He needs you to pray and ask for more labourers.

If you think about it, putting on the armour of God will help with our passion for souls.
