Introduction

Tonight you have a chance to take what you learn in the BIG ROOM and take into your SG and work through three questions:
What does it say?
What does it mean?
What do you do?
You will work through three questions to ask our Primary Question — What Does My Bible Say About Evangelism?
In this passage you will hear a different term that is the same thing: Ministry of Reconciliation
Tonight, I want you to see that as Christians:
YOU ARE MADE NEW IN CHRIST TO MINISTER TO YOUR NEIGHBOR AND PROCLAIM THE NAME OF CHRIST.
Tonight, I want you to see if you are not a Christian:
CHRIST WANTS TO MAKE YOU NEW FOR YOU TO MINISTER TO YOUR NEIGHBOR AND PROCLAIM THE NAME OF CHRIST.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

This scene has the rusted and busted cars seeking that new and fresh exterior shine.
In our lives we try to have that fresh exterior shine! We like to look nice, be noticeable, know the answers, be HIM/HER. Surface level — there is nothing wrong with this.
The fault that comes in our life, is if we focus on how we can make ourselves appear before others rather than allowing Christ to make us NEW and minister to our neighbor and proclaim the name of Christ.
Let’s briefly look at the TRANSITION INTO NEW…

TRANSITION INTO NEW

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
John 1:13 “13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
tells us that this new birth was brought about by the will of God. We did not inherit the new nature from our parents or decide to re-create ourselves anew. Neither did God simply clean up our old nature; He created something entirely fresh and unique.
The new creation is completely new, brought about from nothing, just as the whole universe was created by God ex nihilo, from nothing. Only the Creator could accomplish such a feat.
The newborn soul delights in the things of God and abhors the things of the world and the flesh. Our purposes, feelings, desires, and understandings are fresh and different. We see the world differently. The Bible seems to be a new book, and though we may have read it before, there is a beauty about it which we never saw before, and which we wonder at not having perceived. The whole face of nature seems to us to be changed, and we seem to be in a new world. The heavens and the earth are filled with new wonders, and all things seem now to speak forth the praise of God. There are new feelings toward all people—a new kind of love toward family and friends, a new compassion never before felt for enemies, and a new love for all mankind.
Ephesians 4:20–25 ESV
20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

TRAINED TO MINISTER TO YOUR NEIGHBOR

2 Corinthians 5:18–19 ESV
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION: the proclamation of the gospel and its assurance that forgiveness of sin is available in Christ
Those who have experienced being reconciled to God are the ones called to be ACTIVE!

Practice and faithfully live the Christian walk to better fulfill the Ministry of Reconciliation/Evangelism
I am sure there are some thinking… Evangelism seems scary/awkward. Sharing my faith — I am not ready for that. Notice God isn’t giving it to those who prove themself ready and pass tryouts. It is given to every Christian!
There is a training/developing of this call.

1 Corinthians 3:5–9 ESV
5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

TEAM IN CHRIST’S NAME

2 Corinthians 5:20–21 ESV
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
WE ARE AMBASSADORS OF CHRIST —— give an elbow bump to your neighbor. Christian are on the same team with the same mission as Ambassadors!
—sent to a foreign land, the ambassador’s role is to reflect the official position of the sovereign body that gave him authority.
While ambassadors should never be intentionally offensive in manner, they must faithfully proclaim the full gospel message, even knowing it may offend those resistant to God’s kingdom.

Tonight, I want you to see if you are not a Christian:
CHRIST WANTS TO MAKE YOU NEW FOR YOU TO MINISTER TO YOUR NEIGHBOR AND PROCLAIM THE NAME OF CHRIST.
As you enter into Study Groups and answer the first two questions:
what does it say?
what does it mean?
Think through what we have studied in the BIG ROOM and answer/share.
When you approach the third question:
what do you do?
Personally reflect and share moments in your life
