Last week in the prayer room one of the things that was said was that its about us knowing who we are in him.
What a powerful statement because it is so true for us to live in all that He wants for us!!!
We have to know who we are in christ but to get there we have to know who He is and what he has for each of us.
I know each of us here has a personal walk with the Lord and we know intricate details about God that has changed our lives. I for one have not arrived and I know that each day I have an opportunity to find out more about this awesome God we serve. I have not arrived.
The Apostle Paul tells us he hasn't either…
that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Lets look at this scripture:
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
1st Key :Beholding the Glory of God!
Focusing on who God is, Simply getting to know who God is. Beholding His glory is simply His revealed Character. Its more about looking up than looking In.
When a couple gets married they go on their honeymoon, They spend time together, they learn each other, they focus on getting to know one another.
Their focus isn't on chores around the house, financial decisions or what their schedules will be. (That will come later)
For now they are just beholding one another
So it is with God
2nd Key: Unveiled Face
a Veil is something that Obstructs a view. Something that separates,
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold,
not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.
But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.
Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts.
But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Charles said that the veil wasn't ripped to let us in but to finally let God out among the people now that Christ paid the price.
Unveiled faces we look, we gaze, we behold Him in all His beauty, all His awesomeness!!!
So how do we behold Him?
Creation:
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
God’s Word: Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
As we read the word we have to ask ourselves, what does it reveal to me about the nature and character of God?
It reveals that He is holy, loving, faithful, sovereign, good, gracious, omniscient He knows everything),omnipresent (He is everywhere at all times), omnipotent(All powerful, almighty God, supreme power).
Remember the word of God is living and active!
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Prayer:
When we pray we behold Him, because he speaks, He shares his thoughts with us.
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
He speaks to us, we have learned this in the prayer room that as we seek Him and pray he reveals things to us we do not know. sometimes through a scripture, impressions on our hear, creation, other people, circumstances.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
3rd Key: We all(Community)
We need one another, we need the body of Christ we can behold him as we see what he is doing in others, We seek Him together and He reveals himself in a powerful way.
4th Key: Transformation Just happens:
When you properly get to know God and who he is , you cannot help but fall in love with Him, when you fall in love with Him you want to obey Him.
