Introduction:

A. There are 8 positive attitudes stated in the Beatitudes that provide a foundation for a fulfilling and joyful life. These Beatitudes speak to the inner person, and that is the REAL you. The Beatitudes calls us to BE something before we DO something.

1. Beatitudes described: Poor, Mourn, Meek, Hunger and Thirst, Merciful, Pure, Peacemakers, and Persecuted.

2. Beatitudes’ reward: Kingdom of Heaven, comfort, inherit the earth, filled, mercy, see God, called sons of God, inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

B. The word translated “blessed” is also translated “happy, blissful and spiritually prosperous” (To be enlarged).

Main Points:

I. Jesus said, “Blessed [happy] are the Meek for they shall inherit the earth.”

A. Meekness defined: The Bible’s definition of meekness and the dictionary’s definition of meekness represent two entirely different concepts.

1. The dictionary defines meekness as “deficient in courage.” So, many imply that it means to be weak.

2. We tend to think that it refers to someone who is unable to stand firm on a position, is easy to persuade to the point of gullibility, and in general is a weak-minded, weak-willed person. This is NOT a picture of biblical meekness.

3. The Greek word translated meekness (praus) is used to describe a soothing medicine, a gentle breeze, a colt that has been broken and domesticated so it could be controlled by man, and a mild or soft word.

4. Tied up in the word meek is the concept of power under control - the idea of being submissive to someone greater than ourselves.

5. A meek person is one whose strength is controlled by God. God’s control shows up in our thoughts, words, actions, will, and emotions. The meek are those who submit, not to what others want, but to what God wants.

B. Today we will discover how authentic meekness is found in our mindset and attitude.

1. Mindset and attitude toward the challenges of our lives. , , ,

2. Mindset and attitude toward a believer who is struggling spiritually.

3. Mindset and attitude toward those people who don’t see eye to eye with us. ;

Meekness is having the right or authority to carry an action out but refraining for the benefit of others.

Meek people do not exalt themselves.

Meek people are not always on the defensive.

4. Mindset and attitude toward the reward we will enjoy – “then they shall inherit the earth.”

A. Those who are meek (faithful Christians) have an inheritance here in this life.

They are truly satisfied. They are content. - “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

B. The meek will also inherit that new heaven and earth.

- “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together
