Sermon Discussion Questions: March 1, 2026 The Peace of the Lord Call to Worship: Psalm 121:1-8 1. The Psalmist is far from Jerusalem and looking toward it. What evidence do we see that, for peace, he did not need to be in the city or the temple? 2. Where else in scripture do we see the promise presented in verses 7 & 8? Lord’s Supper 1. In John 6:51, Jesus states that his flesh is living bread, and eating it provides eternal life. His disciples question him (verse 52). In verses 53 through 56, Jesus does not soften his statement or suggest he is speaking in parabolic or metaphorical terms. Instead, he reiterates, develops, and emphasizes his original statement. How do we reconcile these verses with the doctrine that the Lord's supper is a memorial event? Sermon: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5, 16-18 I. Mission of the Word – Verses 1-2 1. Pastor Paul emphasized that biblical peace is more than a sense of calm, or the absence of conflict. How does biblical peace surpass these circumstances? 2. Share a time the Lord, through adversity, gave you peace. 3. According to the sermon, who (not what) is the cure for conflict, and how does authentic resolution of conflict occur? 4. Share either a Bible story or a personal story in which there was an authentic resolution of conflict. 5. Share a personal situation where you were pleasantly surprised to learn you were not the only believer in a group, or a historical story where missionaries learned that the gospel had 'sped ahead' of them. II. The Faithfulness of the Lord – Verse 3 6. What is the meaning of the metaphor: “Anchor in the veil”. From what scripture is it derived? 7. How does the establishment of a business or church differ from the establishment of the believer? 8. If you ever feel uneasy or anxious because you have a sense of demonic attack, how do you deal with it? III. The Direction of the Heart – Verses 4-5 9. How are some of the ways that we see steadfastness in the character of Christ? IV. The Benediction of Peace – Verses 16-18 10. Why was it necessary for Paul to personally sign his letters? 11. What were Pastor Paul's suggestions regarding when to disagree and how to disagree? 12. AI Question 🤖: Paul prays that the Lord would direct their hearts toward God’s love and Christ’s perseverance. What would it look like for your heart to be more directed toward those two things in a practical, daily way? 13. Peace is the _____________, grace is the ____________. (Hint: the two words rhyme.) 14. Tell about a time you shared your faith with a neighbor or stranger. Prayer Points: • Ask God to open doors in your community for the Word to “speed ahead” and be honored in the lives of those who don’t yet believe. • Ask the Lord to “direct your heart” away from the anxieties of the week and toward the “steadfastness of Christ.” • Specifically pray verse 16 over a brother or sister in the congregation.
