Choose The High Road

Behold, I set before you a way,

and ways,

and a way.

And the high soul goes the high way,

And the low soul gropes the low.

And in between, on the misty flats,

The rest drift to and fro.

But to each is opened

a high road and a low,

And each one must determine

The way his soul would go.

The challenge to Abraham, and the call from Jesus to each one of us, is to deliberately choose the high road of walking before God, or, as Jesus put it, of following after Him. Jesus makes it clear and simple what the steps are if we want to take the high road. They are just three:

• We are to deny self.

• We are to embrace the cross.

• We are to follow Jesus.
