Introduction: Before we can answer the question “How do I study my Bible?” we must first answer the question “Who can study the Bible?” Bible study is not for everyone.
A person who is going to study the Word of God must be saved
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
A person who is going to study the Word of God must be diligent
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
A person who is going to study the Word of God must be diligent.
A person who is going to study the Word of God must deal with his own sin
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
A person who is going to study the Bible must be submissive to the Spirit of God
For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
Only when we are doing these things can we come to the Word of God and understand. The unsaved cannot know the Word of God. In the Hebrew/Jewish understanding of the to “to know” “to know” means action must take place. In other words, in order to truly know the Bible you must act upon the truths of the Bible.

Read - What Does the Bible Say?
Many nibble at the Bible but do not read it.
Example: Video
Read entire books and sections of books in order to understand what is actually being said.
Start in the New Testament but do not ignore the Old Testament
The New Testament Explains the Old Testament
Read shorter books in one sitting
Rule of thumb: if you can read an entire book in 30 minutes just go ahead and read it in one sitting
Divide longer books into sections
Once you read it, go ahead and read it again
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little.”
Isaiah
The Bible is not a random collection of verses (learn to read with flow)
Mark or make a list of things that you do not understand
The more you read the Bible the more your understanding of the Bible grows
The Bible explains the Bible
God is not trying to trip us up

Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.
So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.
Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

Matthew 7:1
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.
For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.
2 timothy 5:23
Misinterpretation is the mother of chaos
Do not make the Bible say what you want it to say
For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
Introduction: In order to have a walk with God, you must spend time in God’s Word. When talking of God’s Word says it is righteous, it is true, it is sure, it is worthy of hope and trust, it is worthy of faith, it is an expression of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness. The Word of God is also a light to guide the path of the believer and without it we walk in darkness. So we had better learn to read it and to understand what it communicates.
