Matthew 24.4-8 Jesus talks about wars and rumors of wars that must take place before the end comes.
Matthew 24:4–8 ESV
4 And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. 5 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
Our prayer should be for peace among men. Peace among the nations.

Mission of FOB

Turn to Romans 12 and Mark 12
It is our conviction that we gather people in God’s presence, grow in the way of Jesus, and go in the power of the Holy Spirit impacting Sarasota and the nations.
We are a Revival House that gathers, grows, and goes!
With that mission we have 7 key values.
Righteous Living
Honor

Kingdom Impact

Honor

We honor God and people by walking in humility, respecting authority, and treating every person with dignity and value.
Pray

REVELATION

Romans 12:10 ESV
10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Standard of Honor

Love & Honor are the moral standard for human living. When there is a lack of love & honor, the society begins to break down.
Mark 12:28–31 ESV
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Out of all the commandments that were given, Jesus simply sums things up into these two, with the second have a hidden meaning as well.
Love God First (Highest Honor)
Love Others as you love yourself
If you have an improper love and honor for yourself, you will not do well in loving others.
If you do not have a proper love and honor for God, you will never be able to love yourself.
Genesis 5:1–2 “1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.”

Defining Honor

Honor (state) - highly respected or revered
Honor (status) - to raise in rank, character, or status
Honor (glory) - positive recognition, esteem of someone’s character
To Honor - bestow rewards upon, to deem worthy
Worthy :: to consider or think to be worthwhile, honorable, or right.
To honor is to treat someone according to the value God has given them.
Isaiah 29.13 tells us that you can honor someone with your lips and yet your heart can be far from them.
We are not offering lip service when we honor, it should be flowing from our heart.

FORMATION

Honor God

The Throne Room

Revelation 4:8–11 ESV
8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” 9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
The ones that are in the presence of God cannot help but fall on their knees and honor him.
Listen to the words of David
Psalm 29:1–2 ESV
1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
Psalm 145:1–3 ESV
1 I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
Every day of our life, we must have these encounters with the Lord where we come to him and honor him in our lives.
By word and by heart with actions.

Honor the Creator

It can be too easy to give honor to the wrong places if we are not careful.
Hebrews 3:3–4 ESV
3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God).
We must remember that God is creator of all and should be honored as such, nothing greater, nothing higher.
One of the ways that we honor god is with our wealth & first.
Proverbs 3:9–10 ESV
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
So, priority 1: Honor God
As we move through the two great commandment, Love God, and Love others as you love yourself - we have to establish what honor of ourself looks like.

Honor Yourself

First, we are made in God’s image and likeness.
This means that we are stewards of God’s creation.
Psalm 139:13–14 ESV
13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 ESV
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Romans 12:1 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
1 Thessalonians 4:4 ESV
4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
Three things that will bring honor to your life when sanctified.

Sanctified Power, Pleasure, Wealth

Power to help others is honor in action.
Pleasure in God ordained boundaries is so fruitful and enjoyable.
Wealth used to further the kingdom and help others is honorable.

Honor Others

Honor Parents

Ephesians 6:2–3 ESV
2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Honor Spouse

1 Peter 3:7 ESV
7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

Honor Authority

1 Peter 2:17 ESV
17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Honor Those That Are Different

1 Peter 2:12 ESV
12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

Honor The Familiar

Matthew 13:57 ESV
57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.”
Sometimes we have those close to us that become familiar and we forget to honor the blessing and gift that they are to our life.

Honor The Elders

1 Timothy 5:17–18 ESV
17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”

Honor Your Neighbor

Luke 10:27–29 ESV
27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus goes on to tell him the parable of the Good Samaritan. A least likely person to help a Jew and yet goes above and beyond to meet the need of a fellow HUMAN!
Beyond our social status, house size, skin color, intelligence, gender - we are HUMANS - all created in the image of our Creator God.

INVITATION

How to Honor

Humility & Exaltation

Proverbs 15:33 ESV
33 The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
Philippians 2:3–4 ESV
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
We start by going low ourselves, and then lift up those around us.

Think Purple Printing

The color purple has many meanings in my life.

Relationship Connection

As a youth pastor, when we would go on trips, camps, retreats, we had a saying, “no code purple.”
A code purple was if a boy (blue) and girl (pink) got too close, leaving no room for Jesus or the Bible and now we have purple.

Printing Process

I also used to work in graphic design. When I would design artwork for print, I always had to set the proper specifications for the print shop, otherwise the colors would not match and the end result would be less than desirable.
One thing I began to learn was that in printing they use 4 colors to create all the other colors:
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black
I had always been used to the simple color wheel, mix red and blue and you get purple. Yet, with printing, you need all four colors to get your desired color.
In order to make purple, you have to layer the unique colors. With all the colors properly layered we end up with a depth that could not be achieved by any one color.

Honor Together

You cannot practice honor alone.
How we connect and conduct ourselves with one another has the potential to bring results that we just can’t do alone.
Honor is not one-dimensional, it’s layered.
Reverence for God.
Stewardship of myself.
Value for others.

Royal Purple

The last thing that purple reminds me of is royalty.
And that is truly what honor brings to our lives. A sense of royalty for God, Ourself, and Others.
We don’t treat royal things as common, and that’s point of honor.

Modeled in Marriage

A great marriage is one where the spouses honor each other. Coming together to synergize and make something that they couldn’t have done on their own.

Application

Consider the definition of honor; how do you respond to people who may not seem honorable to you?
How do you think honoring God shapes our relationship with ourselves?
