A Prophetic Call To Worship
A Prophetic Call To Worship
A Hymn of YHWH’s Kingship
A celebration of sovereignty and provision
A reminder that worship is more than just praise
Also requires obedience
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
Obedience is Applied Worship
Obedience is Applied Worship
Verses 1-7a are frequently used as a call to worship.
Called the Venite. Latin for “O Come”
Without the follow through of verses 7b-11, verses 1-7a become empty emotionalism.
Hebrews quotes these verses as spoken by the Holy Spirit and provides commentary
12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hearts Hardened by Sin’s Deceitfulness
Hearts Hardened by Sin’s Deceitfulness
In Meribah and Massah, the people were thirsty but lacked faith that God would quench their thirst
God miraculously provided water from a rock
At the edge of the Promised Land, their lack of faith had hardened their hearts against God’s power
Resulted in 40 years of wandering
Don’t Miss God’s Voice
Don’t Miss God’s Voice
Meribah and Massah are a reminder of God’s provision to teach us faith
Don’t miss God’s faithfulness and let your heart be hardened
Salvation Today
Salvation Today
Encourage, Uplift, and Disciple one another daily!
“Today” in Psalm 95:7 is NOW, “as long as it is still called Today”
Entering the rest of God is sharing in Christ

Do you worship with Joy?
Do you worship with reverence?
Do you follow through with faithful obedience?
Do you lift up your brothers and sisters so that sin’s deceitfulness does not harden their hearts?
