Kid’s Takeaway of the day: focus on Following. Let's play a game-follow the pastor! You try to do what I do and what I say. I say clap and I jump, and then you clap and jump, okay? Who wants to go first? OH! to play the game, you have to put on my fancy eye so you don't get anything in your eyes.
Verses of the day: Matthew 19:25–26 “25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
Main idea of the day: Wealth is one of the great obstacles to faith in and following after Jesus. Christians are called to love others in generosity and put aside anything that will keep you from following Jesus

Passage
16 And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Then Peter said in reply, “See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” 28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
“You shall have no other gods before me” (verse 3).
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” (verse 4).
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain” (verse 7).
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” (verse 8). One’s relationship to God gets translated into how we treat others made in his image. The first four are to guide us into right relationship with God, and the next six are that worked out towards other image bearers of God.
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you” (verse 12).
“You shall not murder” (verse 13).
“You shall not commit adultery” (verse 14).
“You shall not steal” (verse 15).
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (verse 16).
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s” (verse 17).
Institutes of the Christian Religion Chapter 8: Exposition of the Moral Law
The affection of the heart was not visible, and hypocrites were diligent in the observance of ceremonies; but
17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.
6 Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion; they, they, are your lot; to them you have poured out a drink offering, you have brought a grain offering. Shall I relent for these things?
5 “For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, 6 if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm,
7 does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment,
6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
9 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, 10 do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
What in your life is most likely to get in the way of focusing on and following Jesus?
Do you consider your spending based on what you need, or what you want?
Are you storing up treasures in Heaven as much as you’re building up your retirement?
