PRAY
Oh God our Father, as we seek you this day we ask that You might breath life into this text. God some hearing this are so familiar with this story, others may be hearing it for the first time but for all we ask that You might give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Father help us to glorify Your name today as we seek to cast out all else that so easily distracts us that we would focus on Your Word right now. God help us to bind up every stray thought.
The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
sitting on a donkey’s colt!”
His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”

O LORD, we pray, give us success!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!
We bless you from the house of the LORD.

John 12.15-16
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.
15 Humble King
Zech 9.9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
“Cease from your fears, O daughter of Zion”
Do Not Fear… = Triumphant Entry?
salvation = deliverance
death
destruction
16 They Didn’t Understand

John 12.17-19
17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”
17-18 Resurrection Witnesses
Two crowds
One had been with Him and saw
One had heard an came to see
both had same motives… following the miracle not the man
19 Pharisee Response
Those in power seek to keep it
they gain nothing! = in fact they loose
the whole world is gone after Him...
Triumphal Entry?
Things aren’t always as they appear.
Matt; Mark; Luke - John

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Phil 3.8
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
What Type Of Witness Are We Bearing?
Pointing To Victory
For Them = Victory that is Insufficient.
Misunderstanding
Fickle - “crucify Him!”
Hopeless and self-seeking
For You = Victory that is Indestructible.
Illuminated by the Holy Spirit
True and steadfast
Hope filled and Self Less
Matthew 12:20
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory;
1 Corinthians 15:54–58
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Romans 8:31–39
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Victory: Already & Not Yet
Things aren’t always as they appear.
But one day...
--
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Oh, God our Father help us to see with Your eyes. Allow us to hear with Your ears. So often as we live in this world we loose sight of the victory you have won for us. Things look bleak, we are often afraid, we look to the things that we have been called to and sigh because we feel hopeless to succeed. God let it not be so! You are victorious! You have defeated death and sin and have reconciled all things unto yourself! You are the King! You are God Almighty, El Shadi! Give us strength therefore to trust in you and in your victory, that we are more then conquerers in you, that because of your sacrifice we can boldly profess victory in your name! In this name Jesus we ask this.
Amen!
