Introduction

Greetings…
In the song “Sing and Be Happy” which we just sang, this is a familiar song to us all.
Kyle leads it most often on our singing night, as it is his favorite song.
In the song we see the concept of singing to “make one happy” as a Christian.
What should make a Christian, one adopted into the family of God, happy and thus desiring to sing God’s praises?

God’s Word & Obeying It

We Are Blessed When We Know God

True happiness comes for humanity when they get to know God.
Jeremiah 9:23–24 ESV
23 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
John 17:3 ESV
3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Philippians 3:8 ESV
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
True happiness comes for the child of God when they get to know God, and that happiness only grows when we mature to understand that…

We Are Blessed When We Obey God

True happiness for the child of God comes from not just getting to know God, but by meditating upon his “living word” and “obeying it.”
Psalm 1:1–2 ESV
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 119:1–2 ESV
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
James 1:25 ESV
25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Psalm 19:7–8 ESV
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
Psalm 19:9–11 ESV
9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 119:24 ESV
24 Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.

True happiness is possible in this old sinful world because we know that no matter what goes on around us we can find refuge or sanctuary in God.

We are truly blessed when we have a respectful fear of God, which means we are whole heartily devoted to our God in every aspect of our life.

Luke 9:23 ESV
23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
