Workers in a vineyard

Story of working in a vineyard in Merbein South near Mildura.
Tom and I were so slow at picking grapes that the owner felt sorry for us and gave us different jobs in addition to picking grapes. He also paid us by the hour so that we would not lose out in comparison to the other pickers. None of them complained but they did make fun of us a little.
Have you ever been in a situation where your employer has treated you kindly for a time until you got better at your job?
Did anyone ever complain about your treatment by the boss to the boss and do you know what they said?
