Listen to the Wisdom of the Word!
Listen to the Wisdom of the Word!
Wisdom is dangerus-
two kinds of danger
Danger of Poision and danger of fire.
Poison can nly be life threatinigng. Fire can be use ful. Fire purifies gold . Fire does not burn the gold only the impurites .
Jesus and his wisomde are danderious like fire. It isout wond follyu that is pangerous like poison.
John 10:27–29 “27 My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Inexperienced
Inexperienced
Proverbs 1:22 “22 “How long, inexperienced ones, will you love ignorance? ”
simple, poss. as open-minded;
Error, indeed, is never set forth in its naked deformity, lest, being thus exposed, it should at once be detected. But it is craftily decked out in an attractive dress, so as, by its outward form, to make it appear to the inexperienced (ridiculous as the expression may seem) more true than the truth itself.
Irenaeus
Proverbs 1:32 “32 For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them”
Mockers
Mockers
Proverbs 1:22 “22 How long will you mockers enjoy mocking ”
Mockers do not so much reason against the truth of God as they disdain and belittle it.
Douglas J. Moo
Mockers respond to criticism with an attack; that, after all, is what mocking is—making fun of others, putting them down.
Tremper Longman III
II. Secondly, I want you to follow me briefly in considering the test which is the essence of the taunt which was hurled by the mockers against our Lord—“Let him deliver him now, if he will have him.”
Charles Spurgeon
Think of two friends preparing for a camping trip. One is diligent, checking the weather and packing wisely. The other mocks him, saying, 'Why worry? Just go with the flow!' As the trip begins, rain pours down and the mocker finds himself drenched and cold, while the wise friend enjoys a warm, dry tent. Just like the Proverbs teach us, he who listens to Lady Wisdom prepares well, while the fool scoffs and suffers the consequences!
Fools
Fools
Proverbs 1:22 “22 “fools hate knowledge?”
Psalm 53:1 “1 The fool says in his heart, “There’s no God.” They are corrupt, and they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good.”
Job 5:2For anger kills a fool, and jealousy slays the gullible.
Job 5:3 I have seen a fool taking root, but I immediately pronounced a curse on his home.
All who are ignorant of the purpose for which they live are fools and madmen.
John Calvin (French Reformer)
Men are fools till they submit to the Word of God.
John Calvin (French Reformer)
Isaiah 35:8 “8 A road will be there and a way; it will be called the Holy Way. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for the one who walks the path. Fools will not wander on it.”
Proverbs 1:32 “32 the complacency of fools will destroy them.”
Christian Standard Bible Chapter 1
29 Because they hated knowledge,
didn’t choose to fear the LORD,
30 were not interested in my counsel,
and rejected all my correction,
31 they will eat the fruit of their way
and be glutted with their own schemes.
Christian Standard Bible Chapter 1
24 Since I called out and you refused,
extended my hand and no one paid attention,
25 since you neglected all my counsel
and did not accept my correction,
26 I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity.
I will mock when terror strikes you,
27 when terror strikes you like a storm
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when trouble and stress overcome you.

Christian Standard Bible Chapter 1
23 If you respond to my warning,
then I will pour out my spirit on you
and teach you my words.
Luke 15:8–10 “8 “Or what woman who has ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’ 10 I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.””
The Lamp as Wisdom: In the Bible, "The word is a lamp unto my feet" (Psalm 119:105). Christ, as the Wisdom of God, is the "Light" that reveals where the lost have fallen.
The Hidden Treasure: Just as the "treasures of wisdom and knowledge" are hidden in Christ (Colossians 2:3), the coin was hidden in the dust. The search is an act of valuing what others might consider "just a bit of metal" or "just a sinner."
Good listeners are produced by good preaching

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Welsh Preacher and Writer)
Imagine a classroom where the teacher asks, 'What's the most important lesson you've learned?' One student who always jokes and distracts the class raises his hand, saying, 'Don't take life too seriously!' Meanwhile, another quietly shares, 'To think before I speak.' The class laughs at the joker but learns from the wise one. Just like Lady Wisdom in Proverbs, it's better to listen to those who speak from experience than to the fool who can't see the bigger picture!
The Worlds Foolishness
The Worlds Foolishness
1 Corinthians 3:18–20 “18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so that he can become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, since it is written, He catches the wise in their craftiness; 20 and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings of the wise are futile.”
To search for wisdom apart from Christ means not simply foolhardiness but utter insanity.
John Calvin (French Reformer)
Colossians 2:2–3 “2 I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ. 3 In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
1 Corinthians 1:30 “30 It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption”
Proverbs 1:33 “33 But whoever listens to me will live securely and be undisturbed by the dread of danger.””
wisdom of this world" (which is temporary and often arrogant)
the wisdom found in Christ (which is eternal and humble).
