0. Where to Begin in the Bible?

John, Acts, 1 & 2 Kings, 1&2 Samuel Main thing to remember JUST START Some where!
You picked a book, how do i start?

1. Pray

pray for understanding about what you are going to read. Pray that he revels what he wants you to understand. - remember only Holy Spirit can give you complete understanding. comentares are awesome tools but overall holy spirit is the ultimate giver of wisdom

2. Read

Read the text 1st - whether its a verse or chapter READ
Read, read, read Try to understand the verse. Read it again, still don’t grasps it read it again.
Romans 12:1–2 “Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Example : Look at living and holy sacrifice… it looks as if this wouldn’t make sense, but look at the supporting words/sentences around it. * looking at context we see it means being dead to our flesh and following God fully

3. Pray again

we prayed to open our study, we have read the text, now we pray for anything we don’t understand. **Some chapters, book, verses takes some serious dedication to fully grasps it. Dont get discouraged about it.

4. Separation of fleshly thoughts from Spiritual

Distance your self from your preconceived thoughts *** Dig deep into the word. Super easy to do with very familiar verses ie John 3:16, Phil 4:13, 1 Tim 4:12 … so on just because you know it doesn’t mean God cant use it to show you something different

5. The 5 W’s

Who the author
When was it written?
Who was the audience?
Where does the story take place?
What was the purpose of this book?
Answer these questions! It will help you deepen your understand of the scriptures!

6. Look at the context

Read the verses around what you are studying, read the chapter before or behind what you are studying.

7. Look at Greek and Hebrew words

Example : Love in English is love Love Greek - Philos, Eros, Agape, Philia **Understanding the original intent is very important

8. Commentaries

Read commentaries - get a good set of commentaries - Jared pointed me to Warren Wiersbe - Be Series - highly recommended they are plenty of them out there! Make sure its has good doctrine and theology!

9. Applying

Apply what you learned. It may take 1 - 2 days to fully digest what you have learned. ** Don’t get discouraged if you still struggle under standing the text. Its normal mature Christians struggle to understand scripture. Some scripture will NOT be fully understood parts like of Daniel, Revelation, Genesis, ect its not excuse to not try however it should be attempted!

10. Find what works

The best practice is what works for you within in good doctrine and theology.
