Introduction

Noah is the next in our series of men and women who walked with God. Noah lived in a wicked day much like we do. The Bible tells us that the world was corrupt and filled with violence. (Genesis 6:11) Noah’s name means rest. Although he was a comfort and rest to his father Lamech, Noah learned to rest in the Lord even though all this bad stuff was going on around him. Psalm 37:7 “7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”
Do you know how many generations have been born since Adam had been created? 10. Adam being the first generation. Noah was only the 10th generation. Yet Noah was born only 1086 years after the world was created. The world went downhill quickly. So in our day and age America founded on Christian principles has been shifting away from them. It isn’t uncommon for me to meet use-to-goers or people who are living sinfully that will tell me they had a grandpa that was a pastor. Why? the sh
Genesis 6:8–9 “8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”

1. Noah found grace in God’s eyes.

Genesis 6:8 “8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
Explain
Grace is given to Noah by God.
When is Noah living and what is going on?
The earth has become rampantly wicked.
What is grace? It is not just a girl’s name, grace describes the quality of favor, pleasantness, and being well favored.
Grace is God giving us what we need - 2 Corinthians 12:9 “9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Saving Grace is extended through faith. Ephesians 2:8–9 “8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
The source of grace is from God.
As grace is first from God, so it is continually from him, as much as light is all day long from the sun, as well at first dawn or at sun rising.
Jonathan Edwards (American Evangelical Preacher)
How is grace given?
James 4:6 “6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
To receive God’s grace there needs to be a humble faith to receive it.
Habakkuk 2:4 “4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: But the just shall live by his faith.”

Why weren’t more people receiving this grace? They did not believe God.
The promise: Genesis 3:15 “15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
The presumption: Eve thought Cain was her man begotten of the Lord and he turned out a murderer. Genesis 4:8 “8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”
Lacked Patience: They got tired of waiting.
Hebrews 10:36 “36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”
2 Peter 3:4 “4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
2 Peter 3:8 “8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

You can find grace in the eyes of the Lord too. Ezekiel 33:11 “11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”

2. Noah was a just man.

Genesis 6:9 “9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Explain
Noah was a just man.
Righteous, innocent. 162x
By man’s standard he was doing the right thing. He was good guy. He wasn’t killing people, cheating, and stealing, sleeping around.
He was a good neighbor. Matthew 22:39 “39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
Luke 6:31 “31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”
Noah walked in keeping with what he knew was right in God’s eyes.
James 4:17 “17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
Matthew 22:37 “37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

Do you think that Noah being just means he was sinless?
Ecclesiastes 7:20 “20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”
Romans 3:10 “10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
Romans 5:12 “12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
Noah was a sinner just as you and I are born sinners. However, in his life there was a marked difference from the world around him. Noah loved God more than he loved the world.
How did Noah get called a just man. Wasn’t this before the Law was given?
Adam walked with God.
Enoch prophesied of Christ’s coming. Jude 14–15 “14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

Always examine your morals against God’s Word. Proverbs 14:12 “12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Micah 6:8 “8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; And what doth the Lord require of thee, But to do justly, and to love mercy, And to walk humbly with thy God?”
Do not insist on doing things your own way. Psalm 40:8 “8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: Yea, thy law is within my heart.”
Let God’s Word guide you into righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 “16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

3. Noah was a perfect man in his generations.

Genesis 6:9 “9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Explain
Perfect means blameless, but not sinless.
His testimony before others was unspotted and without blemish.

Pastors and deacons are to have the same kind of testimonies.
1 Timothy 3:2 “2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;”
1 Timothy 3:10 “10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.”
Noah was a preacher too.
2 Peter 2:5 “5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”
Illustrate: Tests in school test you on your ability to apply what you have learned. So God also puts us through tests to see if our commitment is what we claim it to be. Psalm 17:3 “3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; Thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.”
Apply
Do you have a blameless testimony in your family, church, and community.
Are there perhaps sins you have committed that you need to fess up about and forsake. Proverbs 28:13 “13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

4. Noah walked with God.

Genesis 6:9 “9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Explain
Noah’s walked with God enabled him to hear what God wanted to tell him.
Noah was given the directions to build the ark.
Noah and his family were saved because he took God’s Word seriously.
No rain before
A huge boat.
8 people saved with room for many more.

Your walk with God today doesn’t mean you will tomorrow. Genesis 9:20–21 “20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.”

Avoid alcohol in your walk with God.
Proverbs 20:1 “1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: And whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”
Ephesians 5:18 “18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
Ephesians 5:15 “15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,”
Avoid things that will take you away from your walk with God.
Take time to seek God every day in prayer and in the Bible.
