He's Not Finished Yet!!!

Bible Passage: Luke 8:49–56

Opening Illustration: “The Doctor Is Still Working” Have you ever noticed that when you go to the hospital and see a patient in surgery, the family is not allowed in the operating room? The doctor will come out and give updates, but sometimes the update is not what the family wants to hear. The doctor may say, “The situation is serious… but we’re still working.” As long as the doctor is still working, the case is not closed. As long as the doctor is still in the room, the outcome has not been decided. As long as the doctor hasn’t walked away, he’s not finished yet. In Luke chapter 8, Jairus receives bad news before Jesus even arrives. They tell him, “Your daughter is dead. Trouble not the Master.” In other words, “It’s over.” “It’s too late.” “There’s nothing else that can be done.” But they made one mistake…They declared the case finished while the Great Physician was still on the way. When Jesus gets to the house, the room is full of people crying, wailing, and laughing in unbelief. The atmosphere says the situation is over. But Jesus walks in like a doctor entering an operating room and says, “Everybody that doesn’t believe, step outside. This room needs faith, not noise.” Because when the right Doctor is in the room…death doesn’t get the final word.

Faith over Fear v. 49-50

Be careful who brings you information. The messenger from Jairus house brings the message to Jairus about the death of his daughter, and this seems comical to me because the Giver of Life (Jesus) is standing right there and he says nothing to him. Jairus initially comes to Jesus and asked Him to heal his dying daughter. But can you imagine what Jairus is feeling and thinking now. So, Jesus comforts and commands Jairus by saying, “Fear not; and believe only.” Jairus, you must have faith.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV 1900

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The messenger says, “Trouble not the Master.”

This illustrates how the messenger and some of us see Jesus. The messenger didn’t have the faith the Jairus had.

The messenger didn’t see Jesus as a Healer, but sees Him as a Teacher.

Q. How do you see Jesus in your life? Story: This reminds of us the Last Supper in Matthew 26:20-25. When Jesus informed the disciples that one of them would betray Him. The disciples begin to say, “Lord is it I” but Judas says, “Master is it I.” Judas is like some of you today.

Trouble not the Master, This messenger is literally saying don’t bother Jesus. I am a friend telling you today that you cannot bother Jesus.

His line is never busy

He may not come when you want Him but I am a witness that He will come right on time.

Faith over Fear. Jesus is not finished yet!

Faith over foolishness v. 51-53

Jesus put out all of the mourners and flute players. Just like many funeral homes today, they will be the first call you receive trying to get the remains of your loved one. I want you to see how quickly they show up at Jairus house.

Jairus met Jesus getting off the boat, they are walking to Jairus house when a woman with an issue of blood interrupts this processional, the messenger comes with the message to Jairus that his only daughter is dead, and as they make it to the house the funeral home is already there.

Q. Can you imagine how much better our life would be if we had people that were just waiting to help us when we are up instead of just coming around when we’re down? The funeral home in this passage represent sadness and sorrow, but Jesus represents hope.

Foolishness is when you misuse the intelligence given by God. Proverbs 19:3 “When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.”

Faith over Foolishness because Jesus is not finished yet!

Power over Death v. 54-56

Up to this point of Jesus’ ministry, He has performed many miracles, he has healed the sick, removed demons, calm storms, caught fish when the fish were not biting, and in Luke 7:11-17, Jesus did something that people had never seen. Jesus performed a miracle that sealed the deal for some that He was working under the authority of God.

Jesus intersected a funeral processional in the city of Nain, where a widow was burying her only son. Jesus says weep not and had compassion on her. Jesus touched the casket and the young man sat up and begin speaking.

Jesus tells Jairus in verse 52 to weep not the girl is not dead but sleep. Jesus grabs her by the hand and says “Maid Arise.” She arose straightway and they gave her physical body something to eat since Jesus fed her spiritual body. And the parents are amazed that Jesus shows that he has power over death.

Conclusion

You may look at your life and say that my life is a mess. It looks like destruction but know that God has you under construction. He is not finished yet!

Something about a touch from Jesus. He touched the eyes of two blind men, a father brought his demon possessed son, and he touched two fish and five loaves of bread

There is something that I want to tell you don’t Jesus never done. I know you know that Jesus cannot fail.

In today’s passage we see that Jesus interrupted all of the funerals he came across, and Jesus preached many sermons but he never preached a sermon at a funeral.

As long as you keep the Great Doctor in the room of your heart, you have a chance. He is Not Finished Yet!!!
