My Story

You are not just the church of tomorrow. You are the church of today.

Known and Accepted. Taught about Jesus. Challenged t oGrow. 

Context:

Paul writes to Timothy, a young leader who didn’t feel ready. He was quiet. Unsure. Intimidated. But Paul refused to let him stay small.

Paul reminds him: “You are called. You are needed. You can live for Jesus now.” That’s what Youth House is here for.

Text:

DEMONIC INFLUENCE

1 Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons,

2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared. 3 They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods that God created to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 since it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer.

A GOOD SERVANT OF JESUS CHRIST

6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the good teaching that you have followed. 7 But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. 8 For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9 This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. 10 For this reason we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MINISTRY

11 Command and teach these things. 12 Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. 13 Until I come, give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching. 14 Don’t neglect the gift that is in you; it was given to you through prophecy, with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. 15 Practice these things; be committed to them, so that your progress may be evident to all. 16 Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers. -- 1 Timothy 4:1-16 (CSB)

Theme Verse: 

“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

This is our theme. This is who we want you to become.

Belong. Grow. Go. 

Main Idea:

God wanted Timothy to use his passion and ability to live for Him right here right now, and God wants you to do the same.

Points:

1) Spiritual Warfare is Everywhere

1 Timothy 4:1-5

God wanted Timothy to step into his calling despite opposition.

Timothy was known by name.

Paul didn’t treat him as a kid. He treated him like someone God could use.

Every one of you need that.

Where you experience this:

• Midweek — where you’re seen, welcomed, and included. • Outreach moments — DNOW, Fall Kickoff, events where you bring friends and people feel the front door of Youth House.

What we want you to know:

You are known here. You are accepted here. You belong here even before your life is figured out.

2) The light that is in you is greater than the darkness around you 

1 Timothy 4:6–16

God wanted Timothy to stay close to the truth of God’s Word. 

Paul tells Timothy to stay rooted in truth, stay in Scripture, and build his life on the Word.

That’s what we want for you.

Where you experience this:

• Groups — where you talk, listen, pray, and open the Bible with people who care. • In-Reach moments — nights like this, retreats, camp, space where God speaks in deeper ways.

Why it matters:

Faith doesn’t grow because you hype it up. Faith grows because you build it on Scripture.

3) The Bible Doesn’t always tell us where and what but it always gives us the why and the how

1 Timothy 4:12–15

God wanted Timothy to use his gifts immediately

Paul pushes Timothy to step up, lead, and use the gifts God has placed in him.

He didn’t say “When you’re older.”

He said “Start now.”

Where you experience this:

• Missions — here in De Soto, around our country, and around the world. • Serving and leading — taking steps into ownership, not spectating.

Why it matters:

You weren’t made to sit still. God wants to stretch you. Challenge is where faith becomes real.

Bringing It All Together

You enter Youth House backward:

Belong → Learn → Grow

But as Christ shapes you, you start to live it forward:

Grow → Teach → Help others belong

This is Timothy’s story. This is the Youth House story. This is where we’re headed in 2026.
